I have had my ABS/brake light on for a few months now. I took it to the dealership and they told me the module wasn't responding. THey wanted $650 to replace it and I had read here that it could be the rear speed sensor.

Is whatever diagnostics they did at the dealer make it for sure it is the module and not the rear sensor? If it is the module is there any dealers online that sell parts at dealer cost(as there are many for Chevy) so I am curious if there are Dodge ones.

TIA

I can't accurately answer your question but maybe this will help you or someone else with ABS.

I washed underneath my 98 in preparation for painting. The next day the ABS light was on. I disconnected both batteries to clear the computer/module but the light would come back on after a short drive. Since the speed sensor was not to expensive I replaced it and disconnected the batteries for a couple minutes to see if the ABS light would stay off, it has stayed off for several months now. (Speed sensor $34. 00)

The way speed sensor is joined together invites water inside.

I sealed the seams on the new one with black silicone before install.

If you like to go the cheap/simple first, then expensive/complicated last route try this:

Check fuses and brake fluid first.

Disconnect the batteries for a couple minutes, then test drive.

If that does not work it maybe worthwhile to check the connection at the speed sensor, then replace the $34. 00 speed sensor before the $650. 00 module.

It's not to bad till you get to the module, then you might check to see what a salavge yard wants for a module. Ask the Dealer to check what year trucks use the same part number module as yours, this may help if you hunt for a used one. I have bought very expensive engine computors for $50. 00 before.

Let us know what finally fixes your problem.

Hope this helps,

Kent
