clock spring?

Did you hear a funny noise when turning or a crunch from the wheel? Sounds like the clock spring could have broken. Does the horn work?

This happened to my 99 recently. I took it to the dealer. They replaced the rear sensor. It is located on the differential.

good luck

Clock spring is a problem mainly on newer rigs.

Seems like many times the abs/parking warning will come on due to a computer glitch and nothing is wrong. Problem is the light will stay on until the key is cycled on/off 50 times or you disconnect the batteries for five minutes. If after that the light stays on check the rear diff sensor and both front wheel sensors if you have 4 wheel abs for crud or a poor electrical connection.

I agree with the rear diff sensor may be the problem. You can take it out ant try to clean it and it may solve your problem.

I could also be the wiring harness that connect to the sensor. When the truck ages this harness becomes cracked and worn.

No worries though, I think both parts are under $30 each, so it is not too much of a crisis. You could just leave things as they are, that's free :)

Where is the sensor on the diff. I did a quick scan and didn't see it I have tryed every thing else so I'm thinking the sensor must be the problem thanks guys for all the help.

Better to check fault codes to see what the potential cause is before just throwwing parts at the truck. On the '95 retreiving codes is very easy. Under the dash there will be a black plastic connect that is not plugged into anything, this connector will have ONE terminal in it (not two). With the ignition key on, momentarily ground the termial with a jumper wire. If the controller is powered up, the lights will flash a code. Count the flashes, the code will repeat until you power down the controller. Post back your code and I will help you further.

Good luck,

Wayne

I think I found the terminal it only had one prong I grounded it and got nothing I also put a new ABS sensor in and it still stays on any ideas?

ABS lights

I believe the ABS warning lamps on the dash are different for 4WAL and RWAL. The owners manual will tell you which type, and you may be able to tell by the sticker under the hood. Even easier than that, look at the front hub/brake assembly and see if there is a wire coming from the backside of the assembly. If you hve the front wire, you have 4WAL.

My '96 ABS and brake lights were staying on due to a small hole in one of the hoses that are about 1/4 inch dia. I just wrapped it with duct tape and lights went off. Been good for two months now. Don't know what that line is for, but brakes were working OK even tho the lights were on. It was just an irritation. Then when I was changing the fuel filter I noticed the sm. hole in the line.

There is a lot of differences in systems and model years. Please add your signature to aid in us trying to help. I believe codes on 95 and older RWAL can read with the dash indicator lights. All 4WAL and 96 and newer RWAL a scan tool is required. (I think) I'm not up on all the variables though.

I'm not able to get online real often, so it may take awhile to check postings and reply.

Ray,

On the 99 you need to have a scan tool to access codes.

You may try a Technical College if they are still in session around you. We look at lots of different stuff for customers where I teach. We charge minimal fees for working on vechicles.

In other posts it was mentioned that if the rear sensor fails the speedo acts up also. I have to put a defect into my truck to see what happens.
