Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) How Much Boost With My Modifications?

Since putting a lift and tires on my rig, the ABS hasn't been working properly. It engages sporadically, sometimes with minimal pedal pressure. Other times, I'll hit the brakes hard, eaze up, and hit them hard again, only to have the ABS kick in.

Is there a way to re-calibrate for larger tires?

If not I guess I'll have to disconnect them altogether. BTW, How do you do that again?

The ABS system senses differences in wheel speeds. 4WD trucks use three sensors, left front, right front and rear. Are your tires the same size and make front and rear. The Abbot speed correction unit works ok with 2WD trucks, but has problems with 4WD unless modified. One of the members posted some good instructions on how to modify that unit. Otherwise the Superlift TruSpeed Sensor Calibrator (98 up Dodge 4WH ABS) works very well with ABS and corrects the speed/mileage issue when using oversize wheels and tires. I would suspect that one of the sensors is intermittent on your truck, probably happened when you did the lift. Check the connectors and wiring to the front sensors especially. Does your speedometer jump or act erratically? Could be a dirty rear sensor. Try cleaning it if that is suspect.

Thanks for the info. I believe the sensors are o. k. In fact I replaced the front passenger wheel bearing, which includes the wheel speed sensor.

I think that the computer system is getting some inaccurate data. Do you think that the Superlift module will correct this?

Sounds to me like there is a faulty part or connection. You need to get that fixed before adding any speed correction devices. There are plenty of trucks with larger tires and no ABS issues like you're experiencing. Pull the connector apart on the sensor that you replaced to see that the pins are not bent. That sensor is most likely the culprit, since that is what has changed.

Good luck.
