Recent incidents stopping on wet pavement make me wonder if the ABS is dying.

Traveling along at highway speeds, 55 to 65, in town. The roads were soaked and the traffic thick. As you can guess someone decides to stop for some reason and I hit the brakes. Not REAL hard but firm. The whole truck started to lock up. I say the whole truck but maybe just 2 to 3 wheels.

In the past this truck has been a source of pride for it's wet weather braking. I did some towing recently, ~10K - 12K lbs, and did have to reset   the computer by disconnecting the battery for about an hour. Due to Edge Comp box problems.

So is there a way to trouble shoot this with out going to the dealer?

I have noticed a variance in pedal stiffness and travel lately. New front pads about 5K ago. What else can I think of... .....

New Michelin LTX tires, same as before.

I've lost a couple lbs to, but I didn't think DC would cut things that close:D :D

Check your rear shoes. Even though there may be plenty of lining depth, if they have glazed or cracked, they are worthless. Another way to check is to find a steep downhill to try to park on. With yuour truck in Drive, bring the truck to a stop with the regular brakes, set the parking brake, and release the regular brake pedal. Your truck should not move at all (by law, parking brakes must be able to hold your truck with the engine at idle, regardless of the gear you're in). If your truck still moves forward, even slightly, you need fresh rear brakes. I had similar issues back in 2001, and a 4-wheel brake job restored proper braking, both normal and ABS activation.

There are some old threads about this. It may have something to do with dirt in the sensors. On the 2 wheel ABS system the sensor is over the rear differential and may need to be replaced or cleaned. Do a search on this subject to get some more ideas of what to check. You may have a sensor out of order.

With no load, mine grabs, then totally releases instead of pulsing. I'm installing a switch which will disable it when running empty. Works fine when loaded.
