OK, the parents are having AC clutch problems on their 99 2500 CTD... the pump will work fine initially then slowly stop spinning... I assume this is because it has built enough pressure that it causes the clutch to begin slipping.

So we are in the market for a new clutch... I know I have bought just the clutch piece before, but that was for a older ford truck. Does anyone have a place besides dodge they can get the AC clutch?? Or is this a dodge only piece??

Thanks in advance,

when my clutch took a dump it as with most modern compressors i find was almost as much for a clutch as it costs for a whole compressor with a clutch, i scored a good deal on a new (not rebuilt) compressor off ebay, it's been a while since i got it and can't remember exactly how much, i think i was 350-375 with a drier / orifice tube that got locally, one thing that could happen and suck royally is to pay a butt load for a clutch and have the old compressor take a crap

I replaced my clutch and it came from the dealer. I wasn't able to find one other than the dealer and I check my local parts houses and an auto air dealer with no luck. My compressor was working fine and I didn't want to open a good system. I paid $153. 30. This was over a year ago and it's still working great. The problem I had was two of the three spring straps on the clutch cover broke.

That compressor could also be getting tired and binding up after a while maybe.

It seems to work fine if the pressure is allowed to bleed off (clutch/compressor turned off).

We found the same thing, $177 from dodge or $289 for the entire compressor. No aftermarket source for either...

The only unknown right now is that he told me he has been adding freon... so he has a leak. I'm not sure where the leak is at, but with 270k on the clock, it could very well be the compressor is leaking and the clutch is contaminated.
