Can anyone tell me if the air conditioner compressor clutch can be replaced without breaking the freon lines appart? I suspect that the clutch went out on my compressor and the compressor is still good.

I've not had the current design apart but I've replaced a lot of clutch bearings in AC systems in the past. . as well as a few electrical coils. . in all those cases you could pull it all off the shaft (tapered/keyed) and service it and/or replace it. .

Someone commented the other day about replacing all the bearings in the driven units on the front of their engine... he included the AC as part of the list. . So I just assume its possible. . My 05 had the compressor mounted to the lower portion of the engine on the passenger side... very simple to get to. .

Hope this gives you some insight. .

Thanks for your reply. If I replaced the compressor myself, would it be as simple as having the system recharged to get it back in service?

" I suspect that the clutch went out on my compressor and the compressor is still good. ".....

How have you deduced the compressor is still good ? Do you have power to the A/C switch on the dash ? Heated mirror switch ?

MY A/C quit, no power to the switch or the heated mirror switch..... I have checked all fuses and relays that even remotely sound like they could control the power..... all good.

Does yours act the same way ?

I have power to my switch on the dash. It was acting up a week or so earlier, and I looked at it while the motor was running and it was just barely turning. I think I will just replace the whole unit
