I have been getting a mildew smell in the truck lately and had read something about a hose not long enough on the AC drain , causing these problems. Upon investigation I found a pipe stubbed out under the AC Dryer with nothing attached. Is this where I should run a hose on down from? Thanks RJ

The tube you are refering to is the evaperator drain I think. This is the tube that is supposed to drain the water that condenses on the evaperator. (that's kind of confusing aint it) :D

RJ2,

There are two drains coming out of evaporator. I'm not sure if there are two drain tubes exiting cab but there is definitely one. Look at passenger side fire wall ( I don't have book handy so if dryer is near firewall you found the drain).

As I understand it is short and the water will blow back on to firewall, some of the water seeps back into cab wetting the carpet. Check carpet under/behind evaporator/heater coil unit for wettness. A wet carpet can cause mildew smell.

Best way to tell if you found drain is turn on a/c, get under truck watch for water dripping down. When you find drain attach longer hose to it.

The others have told you where to look, here's a fix. .

A 24 " section of 5/8" tygon tubing and a plastic 90 or 45 and a few zip ties will fix you up. Also a gear clamp to attach it to the drain tube ext. from the cab (don't over do it).

I have a gates coolant line on my truck to extend it. Ask your parts guy to take a walk down the hose wall in the "back"

I think it fits a mid-80's escort? It's a formed 90 with 6" of strait tube on either end.

You might turn the regulator down on your compressor and blow some air through the oe tube to remove and build up that clogs the drain.

The mopar spray (a/c evap. cleaner) for this works great, but $50. :(

On another note the Chrysler mini-vans are bad about this too and they really soak the carpet. At least, I got paid to dry that one out. :)

Good luck. Andy
