OK. heres the long version just so i make sure i cover everything thoroughly. did some towing yesterday, trailering a vehicle on a about a 80 mile trip. all was going just fine 'till the ride home. i was coming back empty(no truck on trailer), had the AC going, when i noticed what smell'd like cigarette smoke. just prior to this, i had noticed that the red brake indicator on the brake controller was not lighting up. after a quick stop to inspect the lighting and connection on the trailer, i did not think much of it, as everything was lit up like a X-mas tree. so i just shrug'd it off. now, getting back to the cigarette smell in the cab. just after that smell went away,i happen'd to look down, and noticed that the light on the brake controller was now working. ? this is when i took notice that the AC was getting warmer by the second. i put the windows down and turned off the AC, and figured i would check it out in the AM. my first thought was the AC relay or some kind of fuse. but, my multi-meter(which i am not really all that handy with) is broke. so, i thought i would just swap it out for new one. but no-one but the dealer sells it locally. so i came home and tried swapping out my horn relay for the AC relay, having noticed that they both carry the same part number. this did nothing. but i did notice that after i turned on the AC, that i blew the small 20a fuse for the horn located near the relays. if i change the the relays and leave the AC relay out, and replace the horns 20a fuse, the horn works again. should i assume that my AC relay is bad or is there something else going on? i ask all electrical guru's to please lend me their advice on what to check or do first. should i fix my multi meter and test the relay i have, or should i just assume that it is bad and go to the stea. . i mean dealer and just buy a new one? and just for the record, the compressor does not cycle even when jumped with a paper clip, and i noticed no change in the charging system via the dash gauge, it is holding dead-on at 14. just that i would add that in. thanks in advance for any help.
