Sounds like a leak to me.

I don't know where they are prone to leak.

I wouldn't think there are any common spot or

we'd hear more about them leaking.

I'd take it to a shop. If it's gone in a week that's

a pretty obvious leak.

My AC is dead as well but I'm not going to work on it until spring (won't have much use for AC for a while up here in winter land). From what I've gathered the most common leak is for the core to be leaking because of corrosion due to debris collecting in the cowl and trapping condensation on it. A friend just had his replaced on a 2000 and it's a major job. The dash has to be removed from the truck to get to it. I'm hoping mine just needs a recharge.
 
Mine quit. It was the core. The core does seem to be the popular spot of failure on these trucks. You have to take the whole dash out to get to it, at least on the 99 I did. With the factory service manual this job is not near as bas as it's intimidation factor.
