This is long over due! The last time I used my truck which was a few weeks ago the ac did not work. The clutch does not engage the compressor when put into ac mode. Any thoughts guys on what to check, I already checked the fuse that was ok also switched relays with another one and still no go?

Use a circuit tester to see if you are getting power to the clutch when the switch is turned on. I'm assuming that you have an ECM, if so, check to see that the AC wiring is properly connected. Other than that you've already checked everything that I have the competence to check. I've had the AC not work as a result of a loose wire in the ECM, the control module in the dash, and a dead AC clutch.

There is a pressure switch on the reciever/dryer (passenger side near firewall) that will prevent the clutch from engaging if the refriderant level is low. To test you can unplug the connector and use a jumper wire momentarily between the terminals to see if the compressor will kick in.

how long has it been since your a/c has worked? if its been a while then you probably have a freon leak and like "ewcmr2" said the low pressure switch (due to the lack of freon) will keep your a/c clutch from engaging to prevent the compressor from burning up.

my a/c is out too. i filled it up with freon and 2 weeks later it was gone so im just waiting till spring to fuss with it. dont need the a/c in the winter much.

not to thread hi-jack, but are there any common failures in the a/c system in 2nd gen rams?

There are a few years difference, but for some reason the fuse for the horn in the 97 has something to do with the A/C, if it is blown the compressor won't come on. Sounds wacky I know, but I swear it is true. Won't cost anything but a little time. If the horn doesn't work, check the fuse.

I have a 3rd gen but don't think there's too much difference in the A/C systems. Mine has a schrader valve that tends to vibrate loose every couple years and leak. Now I check it to make sure it's tight once a year or so and haven't had any leaks the last couple years. To check/snug it, you just need a little tool that looks just like one you'd use to remove/install a tire valve core. Here's what one looks like.

always confuse the 2 but the evaporator/condensor in the dashboard tends to spring a leak more so if yjey are parked outside allowing leaves, pine needles and other crud to get inside
