In my 97 if I am in traffic or parked my ac will stopworking. On the freeway it works great. I will get 45 degree air or so out the ducts. I am in weather up to 120 so good air is important. I have change the fan clutch hoping that would help. I am now thinking that maybe I am over pressure and that is the problem.

Any ideas?

I just had the same thing happen to me. So i put a fun clutch on it helped some. But I got looking a round and found that my radiator was all full of oil. The oil came from the crank case breather someone put a bottle on it. So I cleaned it out some at the car wash. works better now. I will have to take it out one of these days and clean it good. Hope this helps you

I just changed the fan clutch with a new one. So I don't think that is it. I also wash the radator out with my power wash often so I don't think that can be it.

When it getts hot it also sounds like the compressor is laboring if that helps. When I filled it it would spike pressures. Then I would have to let it cool and give it a little more. It works great on the freeway. It will blow in the 40s.

With the age of your truck, I would have the A/C pressures checked. You might need a little R134. YOU SHOULD SEE 38 to 40 degrees F.

Another vote for clogged up rad. Get some simple green and hose it down, then rinse it with HOT water. A powerwasher prolly isnt a good idea on an older rad, you`ll prolly put a hole in it. .

good luck

How do you test the fan clutch? I have replaced it but I never hear the new one or the old one come on. Can you tweak the spring to get it to come one sooner?

Also I have a slow leak at the orfice tube connection. I have replaced the 2 orings but I still leak a little. Is there any sealer I can put on them? I currently oil them with ac oil when I install the tube.

Also 2 Is there a bigger condensor that I can install?
