Weather turned hot fast yesterday (91 humidity 80+). My AC on the drivers side is cool and passenger side is not. Fan seems to be working fine.

I have a 2004 5. 9 with 105,000 miles and no mods.

Thanks in advance for any input...

My 2003 did that, I lived with it til the wife pitched a fit, did an evac/recharge and everything was great, cept the wife moved on to something else..... this was the fix if drivers side is cool but not cold.

S Withrow,

You know, I hadn't thought about that... ... ... ... . last time mine was in for a warranty compressor(lasted 7,000 miles) the dealer claimed my recirculating door had broken while it was in their shop. I know it was working fine... ... so he charged me $84 to break it off... ... ... ... ... ... or $800 to R&R the dash and replace the door. I had him break it off because I had a trip.

The real trouble is DC has a bunch of compressors with faulty electrical connectors... ... ... . nothing wrong with the compressor, just the goofy little square connector(the one with the red button)

I am getting ready to change it to a plug in connector... ... .....

Took my truck in to have AC checked was told that it is putting out 38 degree air on the drivers side and 50 degree on the passenger side. . My grandson who was checking it for me called the dodge dealer and basically they said that was normal????

Is this the recirculating door causing this

Thanks

That is what mine does... ... ... ... ... but it has not bothered me because my bride is cold natured. Water freezes with her at about 60*. So she rides in a snowmobile suit and I in my underwear. It's all about compromise. :-laf

My 2004. 5 did the same thing. We've got a top-notch A/C shop in town so I took it to them and they said that the 2003-up trucks have a faulty Chrysler A/C 'pressure-transducer' that only lasts a couple of years then fails and it takes the compressor with it. They said the 'cold-driver, hot-passenger' situation is the first sign of failure... although we know the blend-door problem gives the same indicator. R&R cost me $990. 00 (compressor, PT & other work/parts) last summer. They told me they use an 'aftermarket' replacement (PN# MT1192) that seems to work better... . they haven't had anybody come back in with a failed (replacement) relay yet (they said). They also advised to change out the PT every 3-5 years just to be on the safe-side. It's only a $59. 00 item. Air blows ice-cold now... even on our 115-degree days. Check and replace that 'pressure transducer'... then recharge your refrigerant. They also added a can of ICE-32 which helps temp-splits greatly. I put my non-contact infra-red thermometer on the A/C air-outlet and watched the 'supply' air-temps drop another 10 degrees as the fluid went into the system. Wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it with my own eyes... and with my own temp-gun.

My 04. 5 did the exact same thing cold on drivers side and warmer on passenger side. I had not noticed it and a friend pointed it out one day. Just added freon to bring the pressure up and has worked great ever since. I was scarred I might of had a leak but this was several years ago and the AC is still working fine.

/vent = on

There are enough of these AC issues that there should really be a class-action lawsuit against Chrysler for their crappy design. Make them reimburse anyone who has had this repaired and repair those that are just living with the broken doors (like my recirc door). But where would it stop... ball joints, hubs, fuel pumps, etc... . #@$%!

/vent = off

Axekicker... What is the brand on that part number you gave

Thanks

Ah! Good question grasshopper! I called over to 'Auto-Air and More' in Las Vegas, to get the manufacturer's name on that part and the 'recording' say's they're closed for the long holiday weekend. The part is listed on the invoice as 'SAN - MT1192' so the SAN part is probably an acronym for the manufacturers name and the MT1192 is the part number. I'll have to wait until they re-open Tuesday; then I'll call and find out more info.

At 120K... ... .....compressor fails Dodge Store replaces with factory unit and gives 12 month/12,000 mile warranty... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... $750

At 128K... ... ..... replacement compressor fails... Dodge store replaces under warranty. . Recir door mysteriously breaks while in their shop... ... ... ... ..... $85

At 135K... ... ..... replacement of the replacement fails. Back to Dodge store. "We're sorry, you are out of warranty". (12/12) Called DC. 5 new trucks in 7 years should get someone to listen. "We're sorry, you are out of warranty".

2 weeks later, ran over a speed bump and the A/C started working! Turns out DC has a bunch of faulty electrical connectors on their compressors. It is the square one with the red release button. Pulled apart, reset the connector pins, fill with electrical grease and reinstalled. It started working fine.

On a hot day, it blows 38* to 40* air... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... 165,000 miles now.

Anxious to try some Ice 32... ... ... ... ..... Thanx for the tip!

Sorry for the delay getting back to the board. The pressure-transducer is manufactured by Santech. So... as I surmised... the 'SAN' in the part-number means the unit was manufactured by Santech.
Manufacturer: Santech
Part#: MT1192
There you go!

Pressure transducer screws on to a schader valve, no need to drain system! Slight pressure release when removing is all that will be felt.

OK I am getting no where with this AC I have done the transducer I have sucked the system down and filled it back the compressor is not locked up I can spin the middle by hand all the connectors look good the light comes on in the dash above the AC button and the idle kicks up 20 when you push it but the compressor clutch never locks up. The only other thing I can think of is the Fan clutch possibly I have not codes. And is their a way to ground and put power to the ac clutch easily ?
