Another Soon to be CTD owner

Brothers of the TDR, HELP!

I bought a 2002 2500 CTD and so far love it! The vehicle had 88,000 miles on it when purchased last May and now has 127,570 on the odometer. I replaced the lift pump at 105K and had the auto transmission rebuilt at 117K.

I am starting to experience a phenomenon when accelerating. There are times when I try to accelerate and get no initial response. The truck is running, but there is little response. I can depress the accelerator to the floor when this occurs and hear the turbo begin to spool up but the engine itself does not really do much else. Then, suddenly things kick in like they should and she takes off like normal.

This same thing will occur at times when I am on the highway at cruising speeds ( cruise control off ) and wish to accelerate and pass slower traffic. . at times, there seems to be no response from the accelerator.

I have switched off the ignition key and brought it back to the "on" position to see what kind of code comes up in the odometer and I have seen the code read P PCU.

I am hoping that I am not into a VP44 problem but have that gut wrenching feeling that is where this is heading. Anyone out there able to help a newbie out with this one???

even with no codes stored yet, this is one of the signs of the VP44 going south. BTW mine went out @ 140K with the same symptoms. better start saving your lunch money. took about three weeks of this before i finally got codes storing against it. 0216
