Has anyone bought a reman auto from Accurate Transmissions in Chicago? My buddy's 98 12 valve needs a new one and I can get their "bullet proof" version for $2400 delivered to my door. They are a huge supplier around here and have a good reputation. I just don't know they have done on these trannies. They have "modified valve bodies and torque converters" and come with a 3 year/75,000 mile warranty. Thanks for any info.

$2400 will cover a factory reman, but it aint gonna be bullet proof. I guarantee that. Im sure the reputation is good for gassers, but behind a diesel Id be willing to bet that itll go south. How modded is your buddies truck? If its pretty well modified, Id look into a company that does these trans everyday-HTS, Suncoast, Goerend, DTT, NADP. In my opinion, a transmission isnt something you should be penny pinching, you usually get what you pay for...

Accurate trans?

I talked to a tech rep at Accurate. He said they use a heavy duty tc with improved friction for lock up. The valve body is modified for higher pressures but doesn't have as harsh of shift as regular shift kits. It has heavier clutches/steels, sprags and bearings. I can't remeber what else. The guys truck isn't stock but isn't hot. He bought it the way it is. It has a boost elbow (27lbs max) and I believe some pump work. It pulls pretty good but not near as hard as mine. Its pretty much a daily driver and he occaisonally pulls trailers-less than 5000lbs. Think its worth a try?

Man, I dont know. I guess if you guys are comfortable with tryin them, then yea. Can you go check out the shop and have them show you what they upgrade in the trans? If so, do that. If they seem knowledgeable and use parts from well-known companies, then they may be alright. I just dont know about the $2400 quote; thats what a factory reman from a dealer runs, so I doubt theres much upgraded. Go check them out and grill them about the trans...

I'm sure they'll tell you, but dont forget to remove the check valve and install a good cooler for any trans as the stock ones just dont cut it.
