Mechanic help for 4.3 Chevy

How has north of Houston changed in the past few years? There is a possibilty I will be going to Sping, TX for the railroad and work in a dispatching office there. I lived in Spring from 89 to 94. I would prolly like to live slightly north of there if I do go, just wondering how far out they have spread "the city".

Is it over crowded yet? I would want to live north of "big" city... . but how far north do I need to go?

How many 1/4 mile strips are around there? I know of one.

Like I said this is just a possibilty... . there is a lot of "deciding factors" on this one.....

You ain't no Texan, Kat!

How you figure? I was born in Ennis, TX (32 miles south of Dallas on I45)lived there from 76 to 89, when we moved to Spring, TX (25 miles north of Houston on I45) 89 to 94, where then I moved to CO 94 to 98, then 98 to present been here.

And yes she'll be going with me if I go... . or I'll go with her however you wanna put it.

My dad, her dad, and myself all work in the same office and all three of us are dispatchers :D

Kat,

If you wanna live in the country, you'll be well north of the Woodlands now! Let us know if/when you're coming to town - we'll get a bunch of LSTDR folks together and buy you a chicken fried steak! :D

Cool! When ya moving?

I live out near Lake Conroe. Drive the stretch of

I45 from Conroe to north Houston a lot. There is a

huge project going on to widen I 45 where it is

currently 2 lanes each direction. Some places like

near the Woodlands mall it will be about 6 lanes

per direction of travel!

There are a lot of nice subdivisions in the area.

My favorite is off Rayford Road and I45, just a

couple miles north of Spring TX. The subdivision

is called Imperial Oaks. The houses are nice and

not too expensive. Rayford Rd is in the same area

as the north end of the Toll Road so it's easy to

get away from the I45 traffic if you are going

south towards downtown Houston. Go to

Realtor.com and check out the housing market in

the Spring area. The only place I'd say to steer

clear of is River Plantation just south of Conroe

because of the flooding from the San Jacinto

river.

There is so much development going on between

FM1960 and Conroe, you will not recognize much.

As for the traffic, the worst spots are from 1960

to the Woodlands Mall (Rayord/Sawdust exit), and

from FM1488 to Conroe. Both of these sections of

I45 are still 2 lanes each direction, but they

are being widened. The worst time to travel thru

them is during the AM and PM commuter hours. Most

of the time the traffic is flowing thru there at

70 or greater!

Lemme know when you get into town! I'm a closet

train nut; but not to the extreme that I can name

any locomotive nor am I a train chaser, but I do

love to listen to them rumble by and I am at awe

when I get to climb on board a locomotive! :D I

have been on a couple in Raleigh NC (invited of

course!).

Spring

Used to work with the bunch all the time. (I was out of Ft. Worth) Worked in Ennis alot to ATSF Country. Good bunch of guys at Spring. Traffic worse then what you remember, you won't like it, but better than O'mgod, NE.

Kat comes home!!!!

That would be great. I would say try Conroe. That is about as north as I would want to go now days, and about as south too. The commute would be a pain, but... . you'd be back in TEXAS!!!:p

The only 1/4 track I know of is in Baytown.

Kat,

I live in Conroe, when I'm not travelling to the Bay Area for work. :D The traffic and congestion is horrbile at the moment. I-45 is under construction from Holzworth Rd in Spring to the south Loop 336 in Conroe. God forbid if you have to travel thru there at rush hour. The Woodlands is now so commercialized and so many people have moved into the area, it has become a serious pain to get around. I try to avoid the area, if possible. Things will improve once the construction is finished, but that might be another 5 years. I used to live in Imperial Oaks, as Chris mentioned. Very nice neighborhood, but the traffic is now much worse than when I lived there. I moved to Montgomery for the better schools (7yr old daughter) and to be close to the lake. I like it much better, but it would be long commute to Spring.

Good luck deciding what to do.

The office as of now is in Spring..... somewhere on AldineWestfield, don't have the exact address handy. Thanks for the info so far.

Its still just a "maybe" the company is looking into it still to see if they wanna do that or not.

That's all I needed. And I tought I had the BOMBitis bad. Now your going to come down here and make me watch... ... ... ... . COOL:cool:

I want to blow a turbo too damn it:eek: ;)

Never Fear, I'll get the ol Dually up to speed soon enough.

Heck, If I lost the front and rear bumpers, and the running boards, I could drop my weight by about 1000#. I need a clutch to see what kind of times I can run though

OK Kat - just kidding about the "ain't a Texan" thing :)

So. . SheKat, this sure sounds serious. . Hope you're prepared. . :D

Kat, if you go join those LoneStarTDR guys, you'll be hanging out with a rival gang. I wonder what the rules are in that case? :D

Doc

Kat !!

Gonna move to Texas ?!?

Hope ya do, one day I'll be a real High HP junkie. I'll have to meet ya, Maybe a Texas Rally 2002 in Kerrville again, if that happens, and all around people decide to go (The REALLY High Profile guys,, Piers, Joe D. Bill, and Stefan K. ) and alot of other guys, KWIKKURT, FAST1,, the list goes on and on, to many people for me to remember! If you come to Texas (which couldn't be a bad idea :D ) you'd HAVE TO! come to the possible TR2002 (maybe 2003?)

*I* - *CAN'T* - *WAIT* !!!! I'll make a special trip just to help ya move in, or just move boxes to your possible new location in big 'ole TX.

Well DOc Tinker... ... . yes it is serious and I am very prepared.

Like I said before if Kat goes... . I go. ;) ;) ;)

I am hoping that we can find a nice place to live. I have never been to Texas so I will be the outsider. But from what I am reading it sounds like a great place.
