Anyone know what the actual tank capacity is for these trucks I put 38. 7 gallons in my truck (it was a Love's and I feel the pump was accurate but not 100% sure of that) and I had not run out of fuel, also the tank burped and fuel was not visible in the neck when I stopped pumping (normally I fill to the top of the neck) I would guess I was within a quart or two of topped off.

I think the tank capacity is around 40-41 gallons. When the overhead hits "0" there's probably around 10% left in the tank. That would be about right with a 40 gallon tank to have 4 gallons left. I remember someone running a shortbed tank dry and he said he put 41 gallons in.

The literature used to say it was 35 for a long bed and 34 gallons for short bed. Either they increased capacity in the third gens, or your filling station is scamming you.

Fellows, do your research. There is a VERY LONG thread about installing a proper air vent in the 3rd Gen fuel tanks. Almost all of those doing so and reporting their experiences following the installation, report a capacity if a little more than 40 gallons.

Mine clicks off the first time right at about 35 gallons, just like the book says. I usually just stop at that point. I don't want to modify mine fuel tank and don't have the patience to force the other 4 gallons in. It takes me almost 4 weeks to go through a tank of fuel as it is.
