Hello,
I am new to this site... my first post... and just ordered a 2007 Megacab 2500 with 5. 9L, 48RE, SLT, and several options. I've heard vaying stories of when Dodge will stop building Rams with 5. 9s and when the actual 6. 7 production begins. Some say they will stop on 1 Jan 2007, but the EPA web page says that manufacturers only have to have 50% if their sales in compliance with the emmisions by 1 Jan 2007.
I am buying the truck in Germany through AAEFES Car Sales (in the US Air Force stationed here until 2008). They tell me that the 6. 7 isn't even available for ordering until 1 Jan 07 on the 2500s and will be an option for the rest of the 2007 model year. They're also saying that the standard diesel through the 2007 model year will be the 5. 9L.
As for me... I want the 5. 9 and the 48RE (although the new transmission sounds SWEET). I want proven technology that has been perfected and not deal with first year model teething pains. Buying Microsoft products (not to mention a Ford truck) in the past 20 years has burned me out on beta testing the latest technology and dealing with bugs. But that's just me. The 6. 7 might be an awesome engine, but I'd rather take advantage of the huge aftermarket for the 5. 9 and the superb reputation that it has.
Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this subject. What is the no kidding story on when Dodge actually switches over to the 6. 7 as the sole engine in it's 2500/3500 lineup? When is the no kidding time when the 5. 9 will no longer be offered in a Dodge Ram?
Everyone I seem to ask gives a different answer... what's the real scoop on this?
