2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Two gauge install questions...

I was thinking of putting a set of 2" Add A Leafs under the rear of my truck.

Wondering if anyone on here has done this and how the ride has been? A few people have been telling me it will drive like a dump truck.

Also a brand recomendation would help out. I was thinking either Tuff Country or Skyjacker.

Also I bought some Bilstein 5100s, part number 6682, which is for 0" lift. The other ones they sell are for 2" of lift, 6647. Think I should get those instead? I can return the ones I got since I haven't installed them yet.

Rides worse than dump truck.

:{ Deaver springs added an add a leaf to mine in order to accomodate the popup which never comes off. Sean Lorenz did a great job of revalving the Bilstein 7100's in the rear. With the camper its really nice but without it,its the truck from hell. Air bags work well for some but not in my case.

Just an FYI, the 2" AAL Skyjacker makes, part #R222, is for 2. 5" wide springs. Got them today and as soon as I opened the box I knew they were the wrong ones. Correct part number is R372 which is 1-1. 5" of lift, or R370 which is 3" of lift.

I reordered the R372. I don't know if 1" or so of lift will be really noticeable, but I didn't want to give it a bad rake and ride with the 3".

R222 was $87, R372 is $143. . I should have figured.

BTW, are there any 2nd Gen trucks with 2. 5" springs? I called Skyjacker to make sure I was getting the right part number, and they said it was the 222s. Apparently 3" wide springs aren't as common?

Nate,

Only 1500 and 2500LD trucks have 2. 5" wide springs. The HD 2500 and 3500 has 3" wide springs.

Tuff Country makes a long AAF call Luxury Ride. They have 'em in 2. 5", don't know about 3". They are supposed to ride better than the short AAL.

I had short AALs on a lightweight 89 T-10 Blazer with RS5000 shocks. That thing rode like it had solid suspension. I noticed that these CTDs are so heavy, my previous experience with that Blazer doesn't count. A short AAL would probably ride like a Caddy compared to that old thing.

SteveB
