5 Stars to Summit Racing

Can anyone direct me to a spreadsheet, comparison, or other analysis of the various computer controllers/mods that are available for the Cummins circa 2001 and what they specifically do? The list seems large e. g. blue boxes, plug n plays, van aaken, power max, bully dog and on and on. . Some of these say say they are compatible with others, so they must increase performance differently. Anyone know of a simple spreadsheet (such as increase fuel, advances timing, overrides boost limiter etc. etc. that says what they control and with what are they compatible? So far, all I can tell is that almost everyone loves and recommends what they personally installed. HELP!

Edge Comp-Fueling and timing, taps pump wire, boost fooling Great box! (120hp stock box) (up to 200rwhp w/proper mods in Drag version) 5 way adjustable fueling levels, 5 sub levels to choose when you want to start the manipulation of the fuel pumps extra fuel delivery.

Edge EZ fueling and timing up to 65rwhp gain, boost fooling, plugs into engine CAN-bus communication. (same as above in connection except does not pierce fuel pump wire).

TST power max 3, fueling box, not much timing, 10 way adjustable in cab, digital gauges as option.

(same power ratings as above, also Competition version available) (most also use an Edge EZ or Van Aaken box to stack onto this box, for timing purposes).

Blue Chip, once again same hp numbers in stock version, Digital box mounts in cab, programable for defueling, pierces wire, fools boost. (premium version available that will fuel like a competition version of the other brands) Nice box.

Those are the main boxes out now for the 2001 you have asked about.

If you are looking to spend about a grand and have the most fueling available I will suggest a Powermax3 from TST and an EDGE EZ stacked with it.

If you are wanting 1 box with similar power I will suggest the Edge Drag Comp.

Good luck and feel free to ask more questions.

As far as I can tell, JR2 originally posted this spreadsheet.

Thanks for the spreadsheet and the other comments. It looks like Edge is the source of many add-ons. Still not clear to me why there is benefit to "stacking" . I can understand if one controlled fuel and the other timing, but I've seen recommendations to add on to a van aaken which according to the table link controls both fuel and timing. Logic--apparently flawed--makes me wonder why the mods from each can collaborate for improvements rather than conflict, or why an additional add-on is needed if the first controls both timing and fuel?? Any more thoughts or explanations? Thanks

Edge products seem to have more aggessive timing.

They do this through the CAN-Bus communication link.

The TST does not hookup through this link, this is why many use the Edge EZ to stack onto the TST box.

But, the TST Competition box takes the VP44 to extremes and fuels super hard until about 3500+rpms (edge cuts off at 3400).

So people like the TST for absolute fueling and stack the EZ on top to get some bottom end timing advancement (faster take off).

Alot like the Edge Drag Comp and Comp series for its smoothness, and no shutter from the fuel pump while defueling or being run hard.

It basically comes down to what kind of setup you are going after.

If you are looking for some mild power, I suggest the Edge Comp.

If you want crazy fuel, get the TST PM3 stacked with an EZ or Van Aaken.

Another option for extreme fueling is the Edge Drag Comp (which I run).

Or you can go for the Blue Chip FMS premium and stack an EZ or Van Aaken with it.

Thanks Justin, Appreciate your comments and insight. No sure which way I will go, but your info helps sort it all out. I am not into radical, but I do need more Torque and HP, and would like to improve mph in the process. So far, just guages ( exhaust gas temp, boost and transmission temp), Mag Hytec transmission and differential pan/cover, amsoil ATF and gear oil, and I've acquired a turbo from a stick to replace the little pathetic think on my automatic '01. But, now that it is paid off, it is time for some more serious hp. thanks mel

I'm leaning toward the PM3 box, but am wondering if it has a boost fooler built into it?

Anyone with experience running PM3 and DDII injectors and same setup stacked with an EZ?

Also am wondering if the "extreme fueling" provided by the PM3 would stress the VP44 too much, i. e. too high of a duty cycle.

Tim

Tim,

The TST Powermax series of boxes have boost foolers built into them.

The Edge series of boxes also have the boost fooler built into them.

The PM3 stacked with EZ and DD2's is a great combination.

I would suggest though an upgraded turbine housing like 14cm or 16cm.

The Powermax3 will not overduty cycle your pump, the Powermax3 Competition is just that, max duty and can be hard on the pump. The Competition is for all out fuel and Competition purposes, and if you keep it off of the top levels you will have no worries.

I'm not familiar with the PM Comp. Is it programmed specifically for each user depending on application, or is it like the PM3 with fixed power increase increments? I have heard people talk about it, but not read too much official literature.

Thanks

Tim

Tim,

I think there is a standard PM3 Comp, but Mark Chapple can probably do whatever you want as far as custom programming goes.

Best way is to call and ask.
