Has anyone ever put on there truck a add on transmission cooler. The kit has you cut the return cooling line with a tube cutter and then you put on a compression fitting onto the aluminum cooling tube to connect the hoses to and from the add on cooler. My Question is has anyone had trouble with the aluminum cooling line and the compression fittings leaking. I would like to find out if this set up will give me trouble befor I cut the cooling line.

I've not done one to a Dodge but have put coolers on other vehicles... I have a good friend in the transmission rebuilding business... . hes always suggested when you do this to fully disconnect from the cooler in the radiator or have it flushed...

I've had issues with both plastic and aluminum compression fittings when they are tightened too tightly... the brass feral (sp) can seem to crush either plastic or aluminum more so than copper or steel... We've cleaned the tube, cut it, and than carefully make sure there are no burrs and than install the compression fitting... . We usually snug it up with our fingers, an additional 1/8th turn with a wrench and than a pressure test...

Hope this helps... .

I installed a proweld trans cooler back in 2007. I was also concerned with the reliability of the compressiion fittings that came with the kit but so far no leaks or failures. Before installing the kit I did some research on the TDR and found quite a few people who used the compression fittings with success, found no failures.

Good luck,

Bill
