Is there anything special to attach a 9. 5 ft camper to the bed of my truck? the camper is a 1979 vintage in excellent cond.
what is the correct hook-up for the lights on the camper?
Espically looking for info on securing the camper to the truck properly. Will also be towing a 24ft enclosed car trailer, any suggestions on the Hitch extension that will handle up to 1000lb tongue weight.

You might try to contact Barry. He is an RV dealer and could probably help you. Just read around, you will find one of his responses to a post.

I am hauling a 9. 5' Alpinlite truck camper on my 3500 and towing a cargo trailer behind. The hapi jack camper mounts work quite well. However because we use our truck camper commercially I have switched to frame mounts both front and rear. The frame mounts are much stronger and dont tear the box mounts off of the frame. I built my own and they seem to work quite well. I also installed and modified a Titan class v (5) hitch (the stock hitch wont take the modification and load) so I could pull a 9000# cargo trailer behind. I added 2 extra recievers on the outer ends of the hitch and made a A frame hitch to go into the 3 recievers. I would not reccomed the stinger extensions that some sell as they dont have any lateral support. You may try a Lance camper dealer, they seem to know the ropes on trailer pulling behind a camper laden truck.

If I'm not mistaken the Titan class 5 hitch receiver is a 2 1/2 ID hitch. IF that is the case (ck before purchase)then you can slip a 2 1/2 "stinger" into the receiver extending far enough out to clear the over hang of the camper. Make sure the 2 1/2 OD stinger you purchase from the steel yard is seamless. Have a ring welded on the outter most end just like a normal stinger would be. Next purchase a piece of 2 inch tube (doesn't have to be seamless) long enough to slide the entire length of the 2 1/2 stinger that goes into the Titan class 5 hitch. You can let it stick out past the ball end if you desire making a step-down in size.

I made my own hitch for my 99 because I extended the frame for appearance of the flatbed and the camper I have. This tube "inside a tube" is strong for I pull a 4 horse trailer loaded without problems. Buddies have pulled up along side to observe the coupling action and have stated it was rock solid. Send an e-mail if you need anything further. Cost is not an issue with this set up and the safety factor satisfies my mind. Dave
