Adding 2-stroke oil to fuel??

I was reading on another forum that guys are dumping Mystery oil and / or 2 cycle oil in thier fuel tanks (like fuel additive)???



What does this help or hurt??? I am all for lubing the injectors and pump, but isn't this stuff a little to thick or crude???



Anyone done this and have BIG miles on thier truck or thier previous trucks??? If there is any help just tell me how much to dump in.

Use the right tool for the job, a diesel fuel additive designed to increase lubricity. Biodiesel is an even better alternative if you can find it. All of those crazy potions people concoct are a bunch of nonsense IMO.

Unfortunately, there's precious LITTLE actual documented test info as to what MOST of these additives do or do not do to benefit the condition of our fuel. We are pretty certain the anti-gelling portions work as advertised - the cetane or lubricity improvers - who knows?



SO, I buy the Power Service stuff, add it religiously - and THEN add a similar amount of premium ashless synthetic blend 2-stroke oil...



Am I improving my fuel and really heading off potential pump problems or failures?



I don't have a clue or the slightest "proof" - all I can do is buy it, pour it in and PRAY!

I am really looking at the thought of refining my own BIO-Deisel... . I think it would be better summer additive for fuel and might even go to B100 if I can make it work in large quantity... Been studying it for a couple of weeks.

I personally know a guy in Canada who works for a large Helicopter logging company. He owns a 96 Dodge Cummins, and several Cat. front end loaders. He has been using Jet-A fuel mixed with 2-stroke mixing oil for years in both his loaders and his Dodge. He mixes 4 pints per 100 gallons of Jet fuel. He has a couple hundred thousand kilometers on the Dodge and thousands of hours on his loaders combined. He has never had any problems with any of his equipment due to fuel.



I don't know if there would be a benefit to the pump by adding this to straight diesel, but I certainly dont think that it would hurt.

over on dieselram there is a thread that is 415 replies strong about the MMO and Power Service. 95% of the replies have positive mileage increase and smoother running engines. I am one of the believers.

96oz Powerservice Diesel Kleen + 1 qt of MMO mixed together and split up into 4 quarts. I dump a whole quart of the concoction in at each fill up and adjust accordingly if It's not totally empty.



B50 is friggen awesome for smoothness and noise reduction with no hit in mileage compared to all dino only.



Dino only with the MMO PowerService added, my mileage INCREASES a minimum of 1. 5 mpg on the highway with noticeable noise reduction and smoothness. Not as good as B50 though.

I have been adding 8oz's of 2 stroke, along with 4 to 6 oz's of Power Service and I can tell ya I have noticed an increase in the throttle response and 1 to 1 and half mpg increases in the city. I have not had any problems, and I only got 4,000 miles on my truck. Around town I getting 14mpg.

Diesel is being made to be more and more like a solvent. It's losing it's natural lubricity.

I tend to think adding a good quality two stroke oil will help this.

I've been adding some MMO oil to my diesel.

I know everyone has their own ideas about these additives. I've been using Marvel Mystery Oil in my truck for 323K miles. The original VP-44 lasted 274K so it must not be too bad. I add a quart to my 90 gal. tank every other time I refuel. Don't know about any more fuel mileage but I have never seen any water when draining the filter. Bought all that the local Walmart had on the shelf for $5 a gallon. DOT has checked my fuel several times and the red color does not show.

ErikW... The jet fuel that your friend is using is Clear Kerosene... (Jet A) He needs the extra lube that he would get from mixing his addatives. The Jet fuel usually contains a fungicide such as Prist or some other addative to keep down the algae growth.



Put very simply the 2 stroke oil when mixed with the diesel will provide some additional lubricity. Will it hurt?? Most likely not. There are many different addatives out there on the market... Stantodyne make a good one, and Lobro-Moly makes one that is recommended by Bosch, that will do many of the same things that the 2 cycle oil does.



I know this post may make things as clear as mud, but many times it is personal preference or bias that causes us to choose what we put in our vehicles... ie Rotella vs Delo; Synthetic vs mineral: What needs to be stressed more is that you use at least the MINIMUM requirements as specified by the manufacturer, and everything else is Gravy.

As for the 2-stroke oil debate, I can't add much other than that I've had excellent success with opti-2 mix in my 2-stroke equipment in my landscaping business. The mix rate is less than most other oil mixes, and is said to be protective up to 300 to 1(IIRC). I've noticed longer life of the spark plugs, less smoke, and more reliability. If I were to use an oil mix in the diesel, I'd definitely consider opt-2.



I have been using power service diesel kleen- in silver and white packages(don't know which is best) for the last few months at random...

I use 10oz of 2 stroke and 10oz of Power Service every tank. By the way, the white is anti-gel w/ cetane boost and the silver is cetane boost without the anti-gel. Both have lube.

Call me wierd or dumb if you want, but what the heck. The last two oil changes I did on my 03, I poured the used motor oil straight back into the tank. I didnt notice any more mpg. increase. Maybe 30-40 more km. per tank increase in range, but this is just because I poured about an extra 5-6 litres of oil per full tank. (no noticable smoke)

I'll take any extra range I can get out of the tank full at these fuel prices.

When I had my 95 dodge, I could prove that 8 oz on Marvel mystery fluid would increase the mileage by up to 2 mpg. So would a pint of trans fluid. My 02 doesn't change with an additive. I like to use a diesel additive that is made for it rather than my own concoction.

However, since I have some bio-diesel, lubrication is covered, so is cetane.

As far as the need to add anything, it all depends on what quality fuel you are using. But, there is no way for us to know!

I understand in a year or so the standards will change and pumps will have to specify more about the specs of the fuel. Also the pumps will offer a standard and a premium diesel.
