I just got my new truck, and I am ready to ditch the weanie stock stereo. I've been looking on the internet, but I can't find anyone who makes some kind of enclose to mount some 10" or 12" subs under the back seat like they make for the GM trucks. I really don't want to put it under the center of the front seat. What have you guys done?

I have added an eclipse cd player with Kicker Solo Barric Subs (the new square subs). What ever size you want, say a 10" square pounds like a 12 in the rounds. 8 pounds like a 10, if not more. Im very impressed. I had a box built for me for under the rear seat. With all 3 amps under the front seats.

I got a pioneer Full size head unit,(kept the stock Infiniti speakers) CD changer and a 300watt amp powering a 12" JL Audio "Stealth" series enclosure that mounts in the center front seat. You lose NO cargo space at all and you will never know its there, till you turn it on. Its simple to install, just take the center seat out and take the cloth or Leather cover off it and put it over the new speaker housing then bolt it back in. It has padding on top still so you can still use the seat. I looked at the dual 10" setups that go uder the rear seat but with them you cant use the cargo space any more which i needed.

MTX makes a box for the Ram QC but it mounts between the front and rear seats and you basically lose seating area in the back. Plus, the finish chips off as i saw first hand on a friends Ram.

I paid about $450. 00 for the box, but JL Audio is top of the line, and when you see how nice it fits, you will understand.

I also have the Jl audio subwoofer in the middle seat. You would never know it's there, until you turn it up. :D

Here is a link to their website for the center sub. http://www.jlaudio.com/stealthbox/ramcentercushion.html

If you are looking for a dual sub under the rear seat check this out. - http://www.jlaudio.com/stealthbox/ramextendedcab.html

The fit and finish is superb. I chose the center seat because I put alot of stuff on the floor in back. I stil get awesome sound out of that center sub. (400 watt alpine v12 amp helps)

I have the JL Audio dual 10" enclosure that goes under the rear seat--it pounds----and MB Quartz door speakers---left the OEM tuner in--it blasts pretty good----chris

Thanks for your help. I think I'll mount my subs under the back seat. Now, do I use my 12" JL W-0's or my Aluma-Pro 10"?

Stereo BOMB

Over the past few months, I've noticed more and more TDR members are investigating the stereo bomb; is it worth a quick poll I wonder, just to see how many of us have junked the factory sytem in favor for better sounds?

JLinder - These speaker enclosures include the Subwoofer's themselves. I don't believe you can add them after the fact. At least that was the case for my center cushion sub. I believe it is the same for the dual 10" rear seat sub. If you already have speakers, You might have to build your own or use someone else's box.

John - I bet you that poll would be %70 - %30 for those that have taken the stock stereo out. Just a guess. Maybe a new poll would be called for. :D

The stereo was my very first bomb. For all the driving I do, I NEED a bad ass stereo! Even the infinity system that dodge put in is very low end. People dont realize what a difference after market speakers make. I can turn mine all the way up with a pheonix gold amp and it will be crystal clear. Try that with the infinity system. O did i mention it was very LOUD? :D

Mac, what do you run for rear's?

I run Boston Acoustic rally 6 1/2's in the rear doors.

The original speakers that came with the truck are 5 1/2's but the 6 1/2's will fit because they are surface mounted.

All my speakers use Alpine V12 amplifiers through a Alpine pre-amp CD / reciever. I use the 2 - 400 watt Amps. One for the sub the second for the BA 6. 5 Pro's in the front. The rear amp is a 150 watt.

For better sound dispersion you want the front speakers and Sub doing most of the work and the rear speakers you want to use as fillers. Thats why I did not use a large amp or separates in the rear.

None of the stereo components in my truck are stock. I did not have the Infinity system, but do now. Stock speaker cones are made of paper, and the factory Infinity is no exception.

I have a Kenwood cassett deck (which is about 3 years old and has been in four of my vehicles now) with a Kenwood 10-disc changer. The front speakers are Infinity's, and are a component set-up (sort of like the factory Infinity system, except I mounted the tweeters in the door panel, about 6 inches above the woofer), and the rear door speakers are Infinity two-way. I have an MTX 4 channel amp driving all four door speakers, and an old Sony 150 amp driving an MTX 10" sub. The sub is in a bandpass box made by Q-Logic, and sits between the front and back seats on the transmission hump. It isn't the one that mounts there, but just sets in there for easy removal.

If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't use Infinity again. They don't handle much power very well. I would use Polk or JBL.

I have the MTX Thunderform box under my back seat. They are custom made to fit different models and years of vehicles. They make one for the Ram QC. It holds 2 10" subs and is the cleanest installation I have seen yet. The box is completely out of the way under the rear seat. You can't really tell that it is there unless you know what you're looking at.

Bombed Stereo's...

I myself have ditch the factory stereo in every rig I've ever owned. Most of the people in my area do the same unless the drive a mini-van... Of course I'm just a young buck and most of my buddies are the same way. If a little is good, a lot must be better:)

The stereo was the first bomb I did as well-a must have for Washington traffic!

2-way polk 6X9's in the doors, Alpine head unit, 2 JL Audio 8W6's running bridged mono off of the back channels of a 4-way Sony. It rocks!:D

I think I'm going to take the 8's out and try a set of 10's.

I have a friend with a 2001QC and 4 8's, all I can say is-got any earplugs?

lost stock stereo

My stock stereo got lost in the garage the first week I had the truck. I used the MTX Thunderform box under my back seat with Fosgate 10" sounds good, and fits reals nice. You can keep your jack etc. under the seat still, also have some room left for storage. See profile for rest of stereo. Dwayne:cool:
