I have a 98. 5 ST that I'd love to add cruise control to. After searching for a while online I cannot find info on how to go about adding it. I'm guessing that somone else has done it, or knows what needs to be done? Any info is appreciated. .

Thanks guys!

NDaniels, I installed a cruise control on mine (2002) and it was easy. The manual transmission truck (at least in 2002) had the cruise built into the ECM. All I had to do was buy the buttons for the steering wheel and and install the cruise control type clock spring under the steering wheel. The clock spring that comes with the standard truck doesn't have the terminals for the cruise that go to the CANBUS back to the computer. If you have the radio controls on the steering wheel then you may have the CANBUS clock spring already. The cruise light in the dash is already there, as soon as you install the buttons and new clock spring it starts functioning. Just follow carefully the instructions on installing the clock spring because the horn and air bag are fed through it too. All the work takes place under the steering wheel. It took me about an hour to install the system.

Great news, thanks!!!!

I was really hoping that'd be the case. I've done clock springs before on newer cars, so I'm not worried about changing that. I was hoping it was a simple as adding the switches, clockspring, and the servo. . just didn't know of anyone thats done it. I probably have a source for switches and maybe even used servos- not sure I'd trust a used clockspring, though.

Well, I don't have a servo. It is my understanding that the autos came with that and I'm told they are operated by vacuum and are located under the driver side battery. I have NONE of that.

Ahhh... I gotcha. I have a manual as well. I really wasn't sure how the cruise is controlled on this truck- if the ecm did the controlling, or a servo. Makes sense... I'll look into a few friends trucks that have manuals and try to get ahold of a service manual.

Looking at a friends truck the other day, I discovered that these older 24V trucks need to have a servo thats mounted below the drivers side battery tray. I'm heading out to the garage and check to make sure the connector is in the harness by the battery in a bit. .
