I would like to add fog lights to my truck. At this time there are no lamp assemblies in the bumper.
I have seen the assemblies for sale, but where would I add the switch? Do the units that come stock with the truck have a built in switch on the dash I could buy and install? Thanks. Gary

There is a kit for the full fog light install from Dodge, part number 82205656 but it is discontinued and I have not found it in stock at any mopar dealer I have checked.

I believe the switch was the light switch. If you pulled it out it turned on the fog lights. Have you tried a junk yard for the switch ?

You have any specific info on this upgrade?
Only that Dodge used to sell a kit with the wiring harness, factory interior light switch with push pull button. The factory eschuton that goes in the bumper
is included also. If you google Dodge part number 82205656 and look thru the links, you can find the factory parts drawing on what is in the kit.

Genos sells the switch with the fog light option as well as the lamp assemblies.

IIRC the fascia for the lights in the bumper is different so would need to get those might be easy to find those at a salvage yard.
however shows available for left and right side

only thing missing is the harness which does look to be discontinued

however perhaps a place like Dorman or LMC truck has a replacement harness. You could always wire them up independent of the oem switch and just have a toggle/rocker switch for it separately if a harness cant be found. I may very well be wrong on this (and the parts diagram certainly shows different as well ) but I thought the plug for lights went all the way to underneath the radiator and all you might need for a harness is to get from the plug to the lights

Do you have any idea why the lamps will not fit the stock fascia panels? The OEM Switch is available on ebay new and the OEM fog lamps themselves are available at Dodge parts, but very pricey at $90 each.

I have read in other posts that there is a connector under the radiator to hook up the dual fog light pigtail. That connector is present on my truck. This information does not jive with the head lamp wiring diagram in the attachment below. I have seen similar wiring harnesses on Ebay, but not sure how compatible they may be.

Most of the 2001 Rams are scarce in my town, I went to LKQ today, paid their $3 to get in the yard and there was one 2001 truck present with no bumper, so getting parts from the yard is not an option.

The plan at this point is to buy parts singly, the only part that is an unknown is the wiring harness.

I do not know the real difference if any in the fascia and I would agree that it seems odd that they would have two different fascia that look very similar if not the same. I put an aftermarket bumper on my 01 within a year or so of buying the truck new and reused the oem fog lights on the new bumper with some backyard mounting engineering but I do not recall the fascia having anything to do with the actual mounting of the fog lamps in the oem bumper. Only thing I can think of is perhaps the round holes are larger but it may be they fit just fine. Since the fascia is available maybe try to put the lights in the existing and if not right then order up the fascia pieces. As far as the harness I wouldn't think it would be hard to make your own. Should be able to find the connectors/plugs somewhere nothing special about them just finding the right style. Am thinking the plug under the rad is just a two wire and then some sort of splice where they "Y"off to each light

One thing of note and you may already be aware is that oem lights are negative switched, polarity may or may not matter but if having to trouble shoot the install may be useful info since the power wire will have 12v all the time.

I pulled the headlight switch looking for the fog light wire. Any idea what color it is? The wiring diagram I looked at said B/Y, I would guess that to be brown / yellow. There was a yellow wire that had been spliced into the head light switch, but I saw nothing else in there that was unattached.

I don't have the truck any more sold it to my BIL a couple years ago when I bought my new one and gave him the FSM and he lives out of state and I don't know the wire color. I would assume it is already in the harness plug to the switch though.

It is possible the yellow spliced wire was a repair. Those years of trucks were well know to have headlight switch issues with running very hot as all the power goes through the switch there were no relays on the lights and they used undersized wire. Many, including me, upgraded the lights to the sport headlights and when doing so installed relays to take pressure off the switch. Since there were no relays and undersized wire there was a fair amount of voltage drop between the switch and headlights. Using relays relieved the voltage drop issue as well as the hot switch problem since the switch was now just powering the relays instead of the lamps themselves. The sport model headlights were definitely better lights than the non sport headlights, two bulbs per headlamp instead of one.

Look into getting a brite box. You can use your fog lights with your high beams on.
