How much hastle & expense is involved in adding keyless entry to my 01 Ram ? (it has power locks) I want it to be o. e. m. if possible.

Thanks in advance!

I am not sure why you would want the OEM remote keyless entry. Chances are the timer module under the dash would need replacing and some other stuff. I would go for a good aftermarket alarm, they tend to have way more features than the crap OEM alarms. I had my truck stolen at 4,000 miles (RKE, but no alarm). Having an alarm would have saved me a $500 deductible and a lot of hassle, and I unfortunately reached that conclusion only after the theft! Incidentally, the alarm install place charged me extra just to disable the remote keyless entry!

If you later get a canopy, the aftermarket alarm can have additional sensors added, whereas the OEM has no such capability. You may as well do it right and spend your money once!

Really easy, especially if you get it from Crutchfield with their good instructions and plug-in harnesses. Pay the little bit extra to get it in as part of a basic alarm system. :D

I did a aftermarket alarm and keyless entry.

With taking my time, doubling checking, cleanup and finding a bad

emf diode in one of the relay packs, modifying it to turn on my interior lights too, using/installing and making the connections for all the options... I took about 8 hours.

On my 99 the area of concern for the keyless entry was the wire harness going to the passanger side door, under the kick panel.

Had to cut into that. The rest was easy.

Best bet is to have a FSM and sit down with the wiring schematics to 1st figure out where your gonna pickup all the point you need.

As jsimpson mentioned, if you can get a plug and play harness for your install, even if it costs more, do it. saves you from hacking into the harness for the keyless entry relays. When I looked around I couldn't find anything for the dodge (when it was new).

I put the Mopar accessories keyless/ alarm into my 99 2500 (also put one in my wifes 98 Neon) Both installs were very easy and plug and play - only one splice into a wire. It was the dome light I believe. The hardest part of the install was getting that rubber boot between the door apart and then getting the power window/ locks harness apart to plug the connecter in. If you have a friend with small hands start being nice to him/ her now!

Install was easy and painless and has been in and working for 2 years now. I can't really comment on the alarm as the truck has never been targeted for theft (as far as I know), but the keyless sure makes things convenient.

I put the MOPAR EVS II alarm/keyless entry into my 2001 Ram, last fall. It is pretty straight foward and mostly involves disconnecting harnesses and putting a new harness inbetween. The cost was about $250 for the alarm/keyless system (I had power windows/ door locks already), and $50 for the parking light / headlight module. It can be done cheaper with an aftermarket system, but I just wanted to use a system that was "plug and play" for my Ram. Note: the EVS II does parking light / headlight module does require removing individual pins from a harness, which can be tricky if you haven't done it before. It also requires feeding a harness up to the light switch which is almost impossible without cutting the harness and putting it back together after feeding it up to the switch... ;)

my JcWhiteny "wire in system" cost me 60 bucks. . but no plug and play. . came with the headlight module, dome light capability, all windows up capability... kill capability.

i have the key-less entry... not being used. . add a remote starter with alarm. you can start the truck when you leave the store. un lock when you get to the truck. get in, insert key, and drive away. . best option since air conditioning. i can also the leave motor running to cool the turbo and shut down after i get my coffee and food.

would not be with out one again

compustar is what i have going on two years now. the best.

Mopar system

I installed the Mopar system myself about 3 weeks ago. Pretty simple and straight forward deal. Had to get the wiring harness for the kit seperatley. I can give you part #'s if you would like. Chris
