OK, As I understand , on the 2002 , the oil pressure is not really oil pressure.

So , I want to add a gage,

From the Posts: there is a Plug on the oil filter housing.

This is where to install a oil pressure tap. Correct???? Y/n

? Fitting size required ????

Plan to run a line to somewhere in the engine bay and add a "T"

for a direct reading gage in cab and a Sensor for a warning light .

Comments. .

Should be a 1/8 inch male NPT plug in it. That's what's in an ISB, and my 05. When you plumb a BMK-11 bypass from the oil filter housing, you use a 1/8" male NPT to 7/16"-20 JIC male (flare) fitting.

BTW, much easier and much less mess to put a sending unit there and run wires to the cab, use electric gauge.

Don't know about early 24V with VP44s (non-HPCRs) but some of the later models don't read true oil pressure. Not sure what year, either 03 or 04. 5 when they started doing psi based on some ECM reading, or how it works.

OK, Looked in the Dodge maintenance manual , electric schematics;

There appears to be no connection from the Oil Press sender and the oil pressure gage, the wiring shows the sender go's to the ECM. No referance to
the gage anywhere that I can find... I assume it is driven by the 2 wire serial
bus. ? don't know if it works as the 2003 & later, ( posts there imply that it is a dummy meter driven by the computer, not actual oil pressure )

Got my direct reading meter in the mail, will install this week and report back. .

OK, 2002 different: 2002 shows a variable resister sensor.

I found the section on gages in the Dodge maintenance book.
( ?? )
It appears the oil pressure gage registers actual oil pressure when oil
pressure is between 8. 5 psi and 80 psi.
Below 8 psi gage stays at '0' and check engine light.
Above 110 psi, gage full scale high.

"Description": PCM continuesly monitors oil pressure and sends the proper
engine oil pressure , message to the instrument cluster.

Note: Oil pressure data goes to ecm, pcm and than to Inst cluster.
(maybe someone should invent a direct reading gage).

Sorry to miss lead anyone, I guess 2003 + are the real dumb gage.

These Dodges ain't easy to understand... .
