Thinking about adding some running lights to my rig... would like to know if this is easy to do, or more trouble than it's worth. I am really worried about the headliner...
If you get the kit from Dodge, and you have the service manual, it is all pretty straight forward. I did it to mine. The only issue I had was getting the style lights I wanted. They changed in 99, to a more aerodynamic shape. If you need any service manual pages, I'll be happy to send them to you for a 98. 5 model.
When I put them on my 97, I spent a lot of time laying out the pattern on the roof as to just where to drill the holes. After I got the headliner off, I discovered a stamped arch support with all five 1" holes already there for a pattern. I just went up through each one with a 1" hole saw. (took a lot of guts to drill that first one, after that, you're commited)
I did it to my third gen. Not a big deal really after you get the headliner loose. Be sure you get those lights sealed up good or you'll be chasing leaks. See this thread for my questions and answers:
Don't know if this will help you or not, but I did it to my Dma. I had a 2500HD with no cab lights. I wanted the lights but I hated the way the factory light-bar looked and liked the old style cab lights. I had a local shop back home install them for me. They were the Hi-Five lights and looked real good. Had a fwe problems with the lenses cracking from over tightening on the curved surface, but it came out ok in the end. I really liked the way the truck looked with the rectangular lights like GM used to use.
