Adding Security Group - EVS II

My brother-in-law just purchased a new Ram 1500. The only missing feature was the security group. This is available for about $180. Has anyone done this? My only concern is if the system has to be enabled by the dealer w/ the DBR, will the truck be disabled by the sentry key until that time.

I did a full alarm system, good Clifford one, for $300 including remote start and turbo timer.

Haven't done it myself, so can't say "for sure", but have read on this board that the dealer does have to get involved in telling the truck's computer that security is present. I've also read that installation is NOT just plug and play.

Those securtiy systems are OK, but if you ever decide you want to install a remote starter, guess what is the first thing you disable ... . I am not sure about the wiring (pretty sure it is not there) and you will need to replace any keyed door handles, ignition switch (if the harness is there)... I my opinion it is not worth the time or cost, just put on a good aftermarket alarm for the same price or less.
