I,m a new member and I,m glad to see that I am not the only one with the "pulling to the right" problem. Also I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one with communication problems with these so-called 5-star dealers. They told me at 14,000 miles that my pulling problem was my tires and they needed replaced. I have a 2001 2500 4x4,5speed,3. 54. It has just turnrd over 20,000 miles. I know the feeling of being worn out after driving for any distance. I am very interested in the outcome of warranty paying for these ball joints. I am gearing up for a battle with my local dealership.

On another note, I have had two new intermediate shafts put on this truck. They get excessive slack on the top side where it connects to the steering shaft from the column. Has any body heard anything on that?

I have been very impressed with the info I have read here at tdr. I look foward to future corespondance. ::

ball joints

How funny I just got off the phone with a TDR member in Co. talking about these ball joints by Ingle Products. I am currently in a year long battle with my dealer to get my truck fixed right. Now that I hear the ball joints are out the battle continues. Talked to the dealer this am and they said they dont think dodge will pay. My truck has sloppy steering and pulls to the right, I get tired of holding it on the road. Yes my steering box is real sloppy where the shaft bolts in, I brought that up with them multiple times but they told me it was fine. What a crock. From what i understand these adjustable have fixed the problem for a few members and hopefully we can get ours repaired correctly also. Just checked my paperwork and I've been to the delaer 27 times 5 for oil etc. the rest to correct mistakes and damage they have caused to my truck including my steering problems. Time to call bbb and dc again. Good luck RMarlar

I had the loose steering-pulling problem on my 2001 4x4. After repeated trips to the dealer I took a look at the problem myself. One easy test is to crawl under the truck and have someone gently rock the steering back and forth(truck not running). Carefully start at the steering shaft place your hand on each joint on the entire steering system one at a time feeling for any slop. I had my steering gear box and track bar replaced at only 1,500 miles after showing the bonehead service manager the problems. You could actually see the pitman arm shaft rock back and forth. Keep truck on the ground while doing the test the resistance on the wheels hepls the slop show up. Be prepaired to physicaly place the service techs hand on the problem area. Good luck !!!!!

steering

I forgot to mention that at about 15000 miles they put a steering gearbox on mine also. You're right about having to give them hands on to convince them of a problem. I have worked with Cat machines for the last 12 years doing what they are doing. I don't understand why it is so hard to get a problem resolved. I have done what you said and checked for slop in the steering. Even with this new gear box it seems that there is excessive play in the steering box. When they installed it , it didn't really fix the problem of slop in the steering. The intermediate shaft seemed to fix that problem. The problem of the pulling is the one that puzzles me. I just called Ingle and found out what these adjustable ball joints cost. I'm seriusly considering those.

ball joints

Tom at Ingle products told me they were 132. 38 ea. and no web site. .

I'm trying to get my dealer to do this repair finally, like they said they would do once the parts came out. Well the parts are out and now they said that DC might not authorize the use of aftermarket parts to correct the problem. Just fix the damn thing... .....  :D :)
