Clever Demonstration regarding tongue weight.....

Here is my situation. When pulling my flat bed trailer with my current 6 inch drop ball mount the trailer sits nose high. I would like it to tow level. If I were to get an 8 inch drop that would about level the trailer but create another problem. The back of the trailer has a folding ramp that will cause a high center problem when loading the John Deere garden tractor when the trailer sits level. Also my driveway has up and down areas that drag the rear of the trailer with the current 6 inch drop. What I need is a ball mount that is adjustable while loaded so I could crank it up or down without disconnecting or unloading the trailer. Does anyone make something like this? Thanks

Lots of adjustable ball hitches require just popping a pin or two and moving the adjustment up or down. So that said, I would think that you could leave your trailer attached to the ball and use the trailer jack to adjust the ball height when you need it and simply re-lock the hitch in place. Other than that, no I've never heard of an adjustable ball hitch that moves up or down off a crank. They have preset positions.

I have a different problem than you, as I'm looking for a good adjustable hitch thats not made hecho en China and doesn't break. They all look good until you read the reviews where people mention how loud they rattle because of the adjust-ability or how the locking mechanism stopped working. I'm so bored of looking that I think I'm just going to get a second stationary hitch and ball at Tractor Supply and just keep it under the seat. Seems like the cheaper and easier route than a perty hitch someone wants to steal.....

I use one of these. It takes about 5 minutes to adjust for height or change to a different size ball. It also removes the need for me to carry separate pintle hitches.

Thanks GAmes.

Question though..... Does the pintle latch drop down on the top of the ball tongue or does it remain up during tow? I've seen pictures of where it can act as a safety latch resting down over ball hitches but then also heard otherwise.

It remains pinned up with a ball. Most couplers have some type of latch on top that would prevent the pintle latch to do anything anyway.

I saw a picture of one somewhere recently that could be moved up or down with a crank while hooked up, might have been in a Trailer Life mag. There are lots of adjustabe hitches but most require disconnect before moving. If I see this gain I will reply. bg
