I was looking at their muffler, and saw this timing sensor on their website. Has anyone used this and what were your results? Is there any chance of damaging the motor by advancing the timing 2 degrees? I know on a gas motor with too much advance it will ping and that is not good, will my diesel do that? It seems to be a very nice upgrade for a good price.

I would appreciate your input.

Joe,

You can find a few threads using search... results seem mixed with some showing an improvement of 1-2mpg and others not. I don't know of anyone that's experienced too advanced timing. I believe the boxes (Quad,BD,etc) advance timing considerably more - optimum (shaky recall) being around 9 degrees? Exhaust temp seems to drop, perhaps 50 degrees or so, as well.

Anyhow, you're safe - but if you're buying a box anytime soon it would probably be redundant. You could look around (with Search) and find comments from folks who have both.

I have it (no box) on mine - can't tell if mileage improved but it does appear to run a touch cooler (EGT), and be a little better down low.

Yeah I have read some of the other posts, just was hoping for some recent responses. I am not sure about a box, I think I am going to stay away from those for now. I need to keep my truck reliable and it needs to last a long time.

Thanks,

Yes too much advance with give you an ignition rattle. Is it as bad as detotnation or pre-ignition on a gasser? Probably not as our diesels are built heavy enough to stand that. The advance is used to make up for the retard the emissions standards required.

As far as effect, the results are all over the place. Some see minor iprovements, some no improvemnts, some good improvements. It seems to depend on the truck and how it was from the factory so it is hard to tell if it will benefit yours.

I have it on my 05, and there is a difference between home in Idaho and where I work in Redmond WA. I have had to back it down half way because the ignition rattle was way bad at lower altitudes.

It seems to have improved lower end power and throttle response on mine. Your expereince may and probably will differ.
