Any of you guys with an '01 know how to adjust the parking brake? I have 12,000 on my truck and the e-brake is getting a little weak.

I can tell when the rears need adjustting by watching the fluid level in the master cy and when brake dust starts showing up on the front wheels, happens simultaniously about every 6-7k mi with auto trans, your std should go a little longer. When the rears are properly adjusted you should have little to no brake dust on the front wheels.

Grin, I guess my rear drums have never been adjusted properly... even from day one. That brake dust started showing up immediately on the front. I thought it was just a normal thing.

OK, I think we are looking at adj. the P brake on the rear disk equipped Rams. I too would like to know how. Also how do they work, is there a separate parking brake drum? I guess I should really buy a service manual.

The adjuster is under the left front corner of the bed, along the outside of the the frame rail. If you crawl under, it's easy to see. I adjusted mine the first day rather than a trip back to the dealer. Follow the cables back to the calipers and all it does is mechanically hold a disc pad against the rotor when you stomp on the e-brake.

I can tell when the rear needs adj. when i set the emerg. brk. at the grocery store.
Simple. . If the emerg brk. depress's farther down than when new--- Get under the back end. 3-4 clicks of the star should do the trick---UNLESS-- it goes to the floor--then 6 or more!!!!!!!!!!! The rig should be an extinion of your body for max performance/safty.

I think you will find that the parking brake is not out of adjustment, but the rear brakes are out of adjustment, that is if the 01 still had drum brakes on the back.

OK this sounds like most other p-brake adjusters. I need to do some looking I guess, but is the p-brake disk pad different than the service brake pad, or does the p-brake just add mechanical force to the existing pad?
