Hey y'all,

I want to adjust the valves on my '99.

Where do I find a Baring tool to turn the engine with????

Autozone and O'Reilly's just looked at me like I was nuts.

Thanks

Deano

You don't need it. (save your money) Put a socket (22mm I think) on your alternator pulley and turn it that way.

The engine is pretty stiff to rotate, I personally would not turn it with the belt, I used a socket and breakover bar on the bolts that hold the crankshaft pulley in place to turn mine when I adjusted the valves. bg.

I'd rather use the alternator nut than a crank damper bolt. I'd rather not risk overtorquing (or loosening) a damper bolt. At first I was concerned about using the alternator, but now feel it is not a problem to use that nut. The engine will turn backwards (belt slips if you try normal rotation).

The trick to using the alternator nut is to go slow and let the compression bleed off, I use the barring tool on tractors and stationary engines but its a PITA on a pickup.
