I have the new Goerend transmission in ready to go... . So I thought I'd do a few upgrades.

I had stock injectors, number 10 plate all the way forward. HX35W Turbo.

Installed a set of new DDP2's... . WOW really woke it up.

But I didn't drive it too much.

Noticed a lower idle and it being a little harder to start.

Then installed a HTBG, with 14cm housing... .

Now it seems to start even harder and misses BADLY until warm, very warm.

I started it yesterday, it was 75 outside, let it idle for 5 mins.

It missed and popped and could barely get up to 55, after it finally got there it ran fine.

LOTS of smoke, too much when in OD and trying to speed up when loaded.

So I figure I need to adjust the AFC and maybe move the plate back.

Would this help the sudden cold naturedness of the engine also?

After the turbo change it is actually less strong running than with the HX35.

Thanks, KO

Did you replace the copper washers under the injectors? It almost sounds like an air leak or the fuel is being restricted.

DD2s along with the fuel plate should spool an HTBG w14cm housing.

The Hx35w most likely has a 12cm housing, causing it to spool quicker with lower fuel levels, but is not efficient above about 35psi.

I just Replaced the Lift Pump, set idle up a little and installed 4GSK.

Still starts just like always, painfully!

Even after warm if I (in neutral) rev it just a little, I'm talking a quick punch from idle to 2000 rpms it pops and cracks.

Under load it runs better than ever. Hard starts and missing is drivin me nuts.

Gonna pressurize the intercooler etc tomorrow.

BUT, after reading posts on here I'm thinking my timing needs set.

I know it has been timed etc because of all the lines and such drawn on the oil pan and dampner as well as the Del Valve has been pulled (paint chipped off), but have no idea when it was done or the specs.

Is 16. 5 the typical? or just best for most situations etc?

Thanks,

KO

I checked it when I put the number 10 plate in. It did need adjusting.

I talked to a local Diesel shop.

He is going to time it, put a new front cover seal and gasket on the motor as well as rebuild the vac pump for me.

Going to take it over monday.

It sounds sort of like the way my truck acted before I replaced the fuel return line.
I'd be crawling under it looking for a fuel leak before dropping all that $$$$.
