Sorry for the delay on the ATS Sound Blanket evaluation. I know I promised this back in the Spring. However, I felt you would appreciate it done efficiently and correct so it took a bit longer. Please refer to the TDR Product Reviews "Member Review" section and you will find quite a lengthy discussion on the product. Hope this is of help to you as I have appreciated all the info you have provided for me.

Tim did not mention anything about a sump blanket under development. He did mention that a firewall blanket would be of great help but there was a lot of wiring in the way.

Excellent review! I'm all for making the truck quieter in the cab for those long days behind the wheel. However, the turbo music and clatter doesn't bother me a bit. The low frequency rumble does. I ran around today with my digital db meter on to compare.
I installed some Dynomat across the back panel of my club cab last winter. It helped with some high frequency road noise but did nothing for the rumble. Then I installed a section of stainless flex pipe in the downpipe just after it turns horizontal. This made a noticable difference in the cab. I didn't have a db meter then to compare before and after.
Today I had readings with the motor warmed up and driving on asphalt roads of 60-62dbA with the a/c cycling on and off, fan on low and idling. 55mph in 5th at 1900rpm produced 70dbA. Getting into the throttle pushes it up to about 76dbA. On C scale, or rumble factor, Idle is 78-80dbC and 1900rpm cruise is 85-86dbC. The strange part of all this is at lunch time I road with a co-worker in his 4X4 Chevy Silverado with 350 gasser. His truck seems very quiet but the db meter suggests that it's every bit as loud at idle and lower speed "in the cab". Getting on the throttle produced an exhaust drone very similar to the humming drone from my Cummins exhaust. Both stock. His is quieter at highway speeds at 1900rpm. About 65-67dbA. So it must have alot to do with the annoyance factor like you said. His truck is as loud "in the cab" with the windows up and a/c on but, it has a smooth sound from the gas V8 and sounds much quieter. And no vibration. We both turn the stereo up to about 65-67dbA to hear it comfortably. His club cab produces the same road rumble at 60mph. I can distinguish the drive line noise in his where in mine it's in competition with motor noise. Outside, of course mine is very loud compared to his. I like it like that! #ad

Thanks for the very informative test results Millfly. #ad

I noticed the almost defening sound of the engine emanating from the oil pan area just after the first time I changed my oil in my '98. 5 Ram. When I was checking for "leaks" I made a mental note to never slide underneath there again #ad
... at least while it was running.
