I saw somewhere on here that advancing the Timing of my CTD (96 Ram) to 15-16 degrees would give me a little more power. Is that o. k to do with a stock trans? Do I advance it 15-16 degrees, or advance it TO 15-16 degrees? Also sliding the afc star wheel all the way forward (how do you do that?), is that the same as having your "plate way forward... . " ? I don't want huge, or major HP gains at this point (because I want to keep my stock trans relable as long as possible, and money $$$$), I'm just looking to go from the stock 185 to like 235-240 HP. I'm getting Guages soon so I'll have them in before I do this, but would like to advance the timing as I have to bring it in for something else annyway. What do you guys think?

Advance it to your desired setting, in your case from 12-13 deg. BTDC to a lift mm measurement that equates to your desired setting. Do not add 15-16 deg. to what you already have. . 12-14 (oe setting)?

Advanced timing will improve fuel economy often on stock and uprated trucks.

Good luck.

Yes, more specifically, injection pump timing. I recently advanced mine to 14*. My truck was supposed to be set at 13* from the factory and we found it to have slipped to about 12. 25*. I went to 14 because I wanted to run it that way for a few months before going up to 15 and compare the feel. I wouldn't say I've noticed any more power, but the truck seems to run better and gets a little (about 0. 5 mpg) better mileage. Sometime in the spring when I've got a couple hours I'm going to bump it up to 15 or 15. 5 and drive it like that for a while.

we set the timing on dodges at work to 15*-15. 5*. also move the cam plate and afc housing foward one milimeter on trucks w/o EGT gauges. This is all done on stock trucks.

I noticed the low rpm power dropped after advancing the timing. I'm around 16° by electronic flow (spill port) timing. I will never go back. The white smoke is gone unless it gets to 10° F or colder. I love it.

Cool, is that something hard to do yourself? (advancing the injection pump timing, and moving the cam plate & AFC housing forward 1 mm)

When I bumped my timing it made a big improvement in how it performs when the engine is cold and the ambient temp is way down, it also warms up faster. Before I had to let it warm up for at least 15 mins before I could drive it or it would miss and smoke something awful. Now I can fire it up sit there for about 1-2 mins and then go with almost no smoke and no miss at all, regardless of the temp.

Moving the plate and AFC are easy to do. The injection pump timing should be done by someone skilled and properly equipped to get it where you want it and so that it doesnt slip and leave you with a problem.

o. k, can annyone tell me how to move the plate an AFC? As detailed as possible. where are they located? on, or by the injection pump?:D

A little bit of power, I had timing bumped on two and both trucks showed a 14hp gain on the dyno after bumping the timing to 15. 5. Jeff

Great, that instruction sheet for the plate by TST was very helpfull.

Is that kit for $235 any good (with the plate, trubo boost part, etc. )? Anyone on here try it? What about the Banks "big head Turbo Boost actuator? What do you guys think of that?

Hi,

Yes, the TST plates do what TST says that they do, and so does their boost elbow. The results that they claim have been proven over and over in dynomometer testing by members here and other unaffiliated individuals, in fact the plates often give more power than their respective claims.

Banks stuff is good stuff but way overpriced. You can find the same stuff cheaper from vendors on the TDR except for a few things like the twin ram setup that doesnt seem to add much for the money.

Great! As soon as I install my boost, and pyro guages I'm going try that kit from TST, sounds great.....

I installed my new plate on Friday. The difference in power for me (160HP to 230HP) puts a smile on my face! Now when the convertor locks up, I ROLL!
