Oo. Ok so the truck is turning 175,500 miles and wandering all over the road. Its an 06 with the 08 steering upgrade. The inner tire rod end is shot and the steering box is extremely wet. The sector shaft has some play and its apparent it will have to be replaced. I am looking at the Red Head steering box and Napa has a gold line ITE. I have read several post about replacing the track bar bushings at $17. 00 from Geno's or the adjustable track bar for like $300. 00.

My question is what are the advantages of the adjustable track bar as I dont think I quite understand what it does. I have read that it centers the axle but thats about it. I have plans to go back with a new gear box and a BD support bracket but am not sure weather to just replace track bar bushings or the track bar itself. Oo.

There are two advantages that I can think of. First is that the adjustable track bars, like the one Carli makes, have WAY better bushings that the factory bushings or even the polyurethane replacements. Second is that it is probably WAY easier to replace the entire bar than to beat out the factory bushings if you don't have a press. Using a 3 lb. sledge and a chisel to beat out the factory bushings is a lot of work and a real PITA! Now whether or not this is worth the $300 is up to you. I opted for the polyurethane replacements. Now that I have them in, it will be a lot easier to replace them again if needed.
