Advertisements ruin site experience

Attention: TDR Forum Junkies
To the point: Click this link and check out the Front Page News story(ies) where we are tracking the introduction of the 2025 Ram HD trucks.

Thanks, TDR Staff

Change 3500 C&C/4500/5500 to Cab and Chassis 3500/4500/5500

Opt out

Look I'm all for supporting the site through advertisements, but this is stupid. Taking over half my screen.

TDR, in order to keep providing the site and the magazine, needs to pay the bills. Subscriptions alone don't cover it. We can implement what you want, handcuff the site's ability to pay the bills, and eventually fold.

People lament whenever another automotive magazine folds, yet they complain when a magazine tries to pay the bills so it can stay open to serve the subscribers. The magazine industry, both online and offline, has been decimated the past 10-15 years. It is even more difficult to keep a specialty magazine like TDR in operation. What would you have TDR do to survive in this environment?

For what it's worth, whenever I've paid for a magazine it has had ads because it takes both ads and subscribers to pay the bills.

I don't mind the advertisements, but we all know full well they don't need to take up so much space. Look at the pic, the bottom half is blank.. edit something to keep the ads to a size that's needed. Not so much empty space, cause then, I leave.

The TDR add banner on my Smart Phone and laptop is relatively small unless I inadvertently select it. Next time you log into your web browser, check how many adds are there. It's more than a little more on dues to offset the cost defrayed by adds. Our dues buy a lot...the quarterly magazine alone is worth the cost alone.

Lots of folks underestimate the cost of running a website... maintaining balance between security and access, updating software, maintaining compatibility with all the devices and platforms accessing it. Backing it up, tech refresh requires pretty much replacing servers and hardware about every 5 to 7 years. And for the most part, TDR has an amazing uptime rate. Support staff is another huge expense, on going training on software, and hardware. And the cost of connectivity is enormous.

Just saying there's a lot many folks don't know about providing a 24/7/365 website.

For my part, thanks TDR owners and staff for a great job and service.

Cheers, Ron

Are you talking about a cell phone size screen? I do all my internet surfing with a PC and 19" screen, the ads are so small I rarely even notice them.

I do about 80 to 90% posting from my Android Smartphone and the rest from 17.5" laptop.

Here's what Smartphone looks like:

I'm so used to ignoring it that I don't really see it anymore

I forwarded a message to Infolinks, but that's all I can do. They'll have to make the change, and there's no guarantee they can.

I'm not a subscriber yet.....using a PC and 23" screen the ads are very small and I typically don't even notice the ads. 99% of the ads I've noticed are Dodge Ram Cummins related and a few have been interesting products and services.
