Looking for some advice about which upgrades i should do to my truck i do a lot of towing and put on many miles so what i really need is the upgrades that work the best but are also really reliable (cant afford to break down)thanks in advance
Wiredawg, what do you attribute the low EGT's to? Are you seeing low EGT's because of one of the mods or do you mean the truck in general doesn't have hi EGT's. I"m always looking for ways to lower the EGT's...
If you tow, you need the boost and EGT gauges, even with a stock motor...
I towed about 10K lbs w/ this truck completely stock and saw about 700 - 800'. After adding all the goodies, seems everything balanced out. Still seeing 550 - 600 ' solo level @ 70 mph and 700 - 800' towing. Haven't towed on any serious grades.
I think this setup is conservative and offers great all around performance. The EZ is ez on everything and the 70 hp w/ 165 ftlbs is great. gives nice low and mid range power.
I have had about every configuration on my truck. The thing you need to know is that when you are towing, with a stock truck, EGT's will still hit 1200* pretty easy on a good grade. You can comgat them by just letting up a little bit on the go peddle. As for the all around best performance for the buck. Drill a 4" hole in your stock airbox. Install an aftermarket drop in filter. This mod will cost you $75. You just don't need a big expensive filter on a 300 HP truck. The exhaust is restrictive too. Put on a quality 4" system and put the muffler as far back as you can to help control the drone. These two mods will prepare you for more power. Everything needs to be done as a package to keep the system happy. The next thing I would do is install an Edge EZ. They put out 60 HP and have a nice kick for towing. The new intake and exhaust will keep your EGT's in check and help spool up quicker. If you want to add a little more go for the Piers Bomber Lite turbo. $350 isn't much for a good turbo and it works well with the mild setup I have discussed. I don't think you will really "need" any more power to help you down the road safely. The only need item, even stock, is an EGT guage. Save your truck and treat it right. Let it idle down to 300* every time you shut it off. It makes for a real happy truck.
