ok, im looking for your advice and ideas for what i should do next. with all the stuff in my sig, what should be my next upgrade? i went to the dyno last weekend, and i am unsatisfied with the numbers i got. also, speaking of low numbers, could a clutch that got too hot cause low numbers? before i got on the rollers, i was messin around and got the single disc pretty hot. i am looking into a southbend right now. but any ideas what i should look into next? sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for assistance

Yeah if the clutch slips... . you will lose numbers. I think you should look into some Dragon Flow injectors from II if you want big numbers. Personally... I think I would downsize the turbo & you'll have more fun. If you just want big numbers... . Dragon Flows are the key. I downsized from a Htb2 64/14 to a SS62 & definately gained alot of power with less heat 300*.

Well the clutch certainly could have caused an issue, but normally you can see a slipping clutch on the dyno graph. What were your numbers? Normally the HO motors peak out around 525-550 RWHP. Installing a different pump will increase HP. Also depending upon what HP you desire larger injectors would come into play. We have also found that the larger injector lines cost HP on the 24v engines, if you have your original lines maybe putting them back on will bring it up some.

As for the electronics, try the Comp on level 5 but sublevel 4 and remove the Smarty for the dyno. This combo almost always yeilds the highest dyno result.

my numbers were 426 hp and 865 torque. i was running Smarty on SW8 and drag comp on 5/5. when i went to Houston at the end of the year last year, i put down 453 hp. but i didnt have the lines or tubes on, and i was running the comp on 5/5 and Smarty on SW9. and what was also funny about that, the box was going out on me when i was running. so you think if i put the stock lines back on i'll get better power?

 You aren't suppose to run the sw9 software with the comp because they both add timing.

can HTT swap out the compressor side of the turbo i have? im thinking of dropping down to a 64. what would something like that run?

Yes... . I'm not sure, but I do know it cost more to downsize than upsize. It should be around $300..... I'm glad I did mine. If you do it... . get a quick diesel 64.

Doug, Hope you are well and look forward to chatting @ the upcomming fling. When Kelly and I were @ the brawl he ran his drag comp @ 5/4 as you suggested. After we returned home I though about that a bit, Kelly and I don't understand the reasoning for running on 5/4, if the advantage of the "Drag" part of the comp is supposed to be fueling beyond 2700 rpm but only when set @ 5/5? Not challenging your suggestion to Kelly, we're just trying to understand the methodology, in our minds the only advantage of the drag comp was removed by setting it at 5/4 instead of 5/5.

Sorry to snatch this post but I think it may be helpfull to understand the 5/4 vs. 5/5 setting methodology.

Thanks,

Joe Mc

Joe Mc,

The fueling above 2700 happens whenever the main level is set on 5 regardless of the sublevel setting. The fueling above 2700 does only happen on level 5. levels 1-4 will defuel the same as the OEm programming. You can see this by the way a dyno graph stays much flatter above 2700 rpm when running on level 5 and drops dynamically when on levels 1-4. The sublevels main function is to control lowend fueling.

just out of curiousity, why is it better to run without the Smarty? oh Jetpilot, you should have seen turbodiezel run, he did a great job blacking out the shop!

Doug, Thanks for clearing that up for us.

got the stock lines back on. seems to have a little more umph. what is really nice about it is not having to worry about the engine dieing when i come to a stop! but i do miss the loping it did. we are going to hit the dyno again in a few weeks, so ill see what she does. what would be a good injector to match with the sp66?

You sig says you have a HO pump, is this HO as in ETC high output 245 HP engine or HO as in hot rod pump? In either case I would consider going with Mach 4's. This injector will produce the max HP that either of these pumps produce. If you have the ETC pump the SPS66 is really too large of a turbo for the pump, you would enjoy a 62 or even a 62 more, much less lag and the same HP output. The ETC pump will produce 525-550 RWHP... ...

Now if you are running a hot rod pump the SPS66 will be fine and HP output will be around 600+!

His mods are the same as mine... pretty much. I had a 64/14 HTB2 & upgraded to the Super Stock 62..... thats right upgraded, because this truck is way more fun to drive & runs way cooler when I have the right turbo on it. I tow equipment & EGTs never get over 1200*... . usually tops out at 1150* on hot days.

i finally took the truck for a long drive this evening, and with the stock lines on, it is pretty laggy! but once it lights, man it comes on! seems to have a little more power with the stockers.

Jetpilot, im running the ETC pump, couldnt afford the hot rod pump at that time! when this one goes out, i'll probably get a hot rod pump. what would happen if i ran some Mach 5s with this setup now? now that ya'll are telling me all this stuff, i dont know whether to keep the 66 and get a different pump, or go ahead and dump the 66 and go with a ss62? anyone want to trade a 66 for a ss62??? lol!

oh, i forgot to ask ya'll, a friend of mine needs to have his injectors cleaned and popped. where is a good place to send them to do this?

hey Cummins724, where did you get your 1/2'' lines? and what did they run you if you dont mind me askin? id like to replace my 3/8'' with those 1/2'' lines

I originally bought a Bullydog big fuel kit... . sold the pump installed a Fass, but kept the lines from tank to fuel filter. I then called Vulcan performance & ordered a Draw Straw for in the tank & a 1/2" feed line from fuel filter canister to VP44. Vulcan has everything that you will need & prices are resonable too. I can't remember the website, but I'm sure someone will help.
