'17 Ford "No tree stump is safe"

My little brother got a new house with a piece of property. Small hobby farm ish...
He wants a pickup truck. It'll be a daily driver.
He wants to spend no more than 20K, needs an an extended cab (or bigger), 4x4 and wants reliability and a FULL SIZE pickup. Auto trans.
He has no plans on hauling anything bigger than a small trash trailer, and occasional firewood and a small tractor possibly for maintenance. (2004 john deere 790)
He's open to diesel, but I wouldn't like to get something he has to modify....he's an engineer and they're sometimes pretty stubborn about such stuff.:D
Recommendations?
TIA

I haven't had anything but a dodge since 95. My 96 was a gas v8 1/2 ton around town it got 14mpg best it ever saw on a 60mph trip was 17mpg. in the 150k miles I put on it it never saw a shop for anything. I did my own maintenance all I ever had to do was oil changes other fluid changes brakes nothing other than normal maintenance items, pulled our 5k trailer just fine through the mountains here. in late 2000 I got my 01 2500 diesel well you know all about those and it is still chugging along with 340k on it though I am very seriously starting to look at new ones now. My boss has 1/2 ton Ram I think it is a couple years old he has the gas 6 cylinder engine in it and seems to be happy with it. Though he doesn't tow anything other than a trailer that holds two quads on it. However he is quite happy with it does everything he needs it to do. I cant remember the gas mileage he gets on it but it was decent iirc. My neighbor had a f150 with the ecoboost for a few years just got rid of it and got a 2016 ram 2500 ctd. He got rid of the f150 as he had the transmission replaced and the rear end twice in the time he had it. It was all covered under warranty but nonetheless that is some big stuff to go out. I, as well as he had thought the f150 was a pretty solid choice but not his for whatever reason an anomaly for that vehicle. His warranty was soon to be up and he got rid of it in lieu of the Ram. Not much help but I suspect that any of the big three 1500's would work fine. Just look for the one that comes from Pasadena and is only driven to church on Sunday by a little old lady:-laf.

Here is where somebody who doesn't tow heavy and is not predisposed to diesel can take advantage of the poor resale of gassers. He will get more for his money by searching out a well cared for, fairly late model 3/4 ton gasser IMHO.

Yes, sorry if I didnt make that clear.
It will be a used pickup.
I dont know if he...or anyone for that matter can get a new one spec'ed like this for 20K.:)

Edit: He will more than likely keep it till 150K or major repair.
