I have a wrecked 2005 SRW, single cab truck. I'm keeping the engine and transmission, because I 'pumped' them up, and I'm putting them in a 1994. My 2005 has been hit in it's left front end, and the hood, bumper, left door, left fender, left running gear (wheel came off, it's pretty bad on drivers side) etc. is ruined. I can have the truck at my friends house for a few more months, after that we will have to deal a little (it's been there for about 4 years). I would like to get rid of everything, but I figure people will want various items (after all it's being parted out) like taillights, tail gate, etc. I also have to be there when parts are being taken off, I can't let anybody hang out where I'm keeping this wrecked vehicle if I am not there.
Does anybody have some general advice on how to do this? Like probably one of the biggest 'ticket' things is the bed, should I insist on selling it with the tailgate, or sell the tailgate separately?
I'm going to put ads here and in craigslist. I'm kind of tired of people trying to 'low ball' me when I'm selling something, when I sold my first generation in pretty good shape with a bunch of good modifications (injectors, pump modifications) I would get people who didn't mind bothering me, offering me prices such that it would be just as well for me to donate it to a charity. Unfortunately, I'm not making much money now so a 'write off' for taxes won't do me much good.
In my position, would you find out (for instance) how much the bed was typically selling for at a local junkyard, and then discounting that a certain percent?
I'm not trying to get the last cent out of this, I'd rather get rid of it-has anybody who has done this have some good advice (in general)?
I realize that I am asking a difficult question, and it's hard to phrase it.
I would appreciate ANY advice, or ideas.

You might look at car-parts.com, which is a salvage yard search engine. You can dial it into your local area and see what parts are going for.

You may want to check with DMV as some states require you to have a dismantle title on it. Other than that it sounds like you have a good plan.

If it were me I would strip it down first scrap the damaged parts and store the salable parts. In my younger days it would take me one day to strip a total down to the bones.

That's good to know. I'm sure that that is the case in 'The People's Republic of California', there is a permit for everything.
