Aero Exhaust MPG????

Hi folks,



I was down getting my purple oil today and the owner of the shop was saying you get 2-3 mpg better by running the aero exhaust. I did a search and nobody testified to any "real" MPG savings. What kind of savings are you really seeing? is it worth it? Snake Oil? Were the savings due to a better non-stock, good flow, exhaust pipe?



I have a lead foot and around town I am getting 11 mpg on the highway 15mpg @ 55, 12mpg @ 70mph (no load). 9 mpg with camper and trailer (9K payload) with o/d locked out running 60-65 hilly terrain.

I have had one since about 3k miles. No difference at all, IMHO.



Sounds a lot nicer, though. Not as "raspy" as all the straight pipes, but still loud.

You won't get any gain on an inline 6 engine. On a V8 it has provided noticeable EGT improvements and a minor MPG improvement (I'm talking older Powerstrokes in particular, not sure about 6 liters or DMaxes). A friend had gauges on his '01 PSD and after putting on the Aeroturbine it knocked over 150F off max EGTs and cruising EGTs were down about 50. I attribute it to the choppy turbulent exhaust set up by the V8 firing order which the Aeroturbine helped equalize. . . ever hear a straightpiped PSD?? A straight 6 has a balanced firing order therefore relatively smooth exhaust flow in the first place.

I installed the 4040 aero turbine muffler ( if you want to want to call it a muffler)I wont be sneeking up the drive way any more its loud, even with the cat. inplace,so I installed a 5" ss resonated tip to tone it down some. better. what I found out afterwards was that you can run A muffler before or after it. I would reccomend the resonated aeroturbine if you want it quieter and it would be shorter than running seperate muffler with the short aero 4040 also. MPG Yes 1 to 2 miles per gal. maybe better if you can keep your foot out of it or the short or long bursts of full throttle just because we can Ha.

No MPG Gains w/Aeroturbine

If I actually recieved all the MPG gains that all of my aftermarket adds to my truck promised, I'd be siphoning off diesel out of the tank every morning!:-laf

FYI, I just ordered a 4040 "non resonated" from Bryan at Diesel Power Products for my 92, putting a 4" system together and going to try it... Compared to other places I priced Aero stuff, he's the cheapest...
