Aero Turbine Muffler?

One of the TDR linked advertisers told me that by adding an aero-turbine muffler (4040 or 4040L) to my 04. 5 CTD I could pick up an extra 2 to 3 MPG.



Jason, @ www.aero-turbine.com, claimed this to be fact and said the factory experience was as good as the the dealer claimed WITHOUT having to de-cat the truck.



Any one out there using one of these mufflers?



At $2. 19 a gallon, they have my attention, but I'm skeptical as this seems to fall into the "if it sounds too good to be true" category.



Aero-turbine experiences and comments are sought.

I picked up about 1 mile plus a little. I REALLY think I'd get better but I think I tend to "exercise" my right foot more so I can hear the great sound!!

I think if you really believe a Aero Turbine muffler will increase your fuel mileage, you probably already have a TAG I, or II.

Get real, I have a Aero Turbine, but I sure didn't buy it to increase mileage. I bought it to reduce the noise level, which is the standard function of a muffler, at least it use to be anyway. For that it does a great job, even gives the truck a goofy different sound, high pitched whirl. If you want to increase your trucks fuel mileage wrap some magnets around the fuel line, with the north or + end facing the front. Then right before it gets to the lift pump wrap some more magnets around the line, with the south or - end facing the front. That ought to gain you 2-3 MPG.

In an effort to increase fuel economy I cut out the stock muffler and put in a Donaldson. The drone nearly deafened me so I added an Aeroturbine up front. Sound is excellent. Since fuel economy was my motivating factor I followed it closely. Comparing the ten tanks immediately before and after the exhaust mods I picked up 0. 4 mpg. I'll recover the cost in about a year--70,000 miles of diving, not great but enough to justify the work. Sounds much nicer than stock--quiet while cruising but nice and throaty on even light acceleration. Jeff

Aeroturbine

We sell a lot of these that are used on the 04. 5 trucks. Usually they are installed right behind the cat and extension pipe intalled to reach the 4" tail pipe. The Aeroturbine has great sound on the 04. 5 and does help to lower EGTs, but does not do much for mileage that we have seen. I would recommend the Aeroturbine for its great sound and lowering EGTs, not for a mileage gain. For a mileage increase look to a good air intake such as the Scotty RA3 and a box. We have seen a nice mileage increase on Jeff's 04 here in the show when he added the Banks Six-Gun with the latest programming. The TAG-III may also help a little with mileage especially when towing.
