Did the 4" headpipe and AeroTurbine conversion this week (From Diesel Power Preformance).

Talk about a nice deep rumble!

And no drone in the cab, just a varying deeper note from the back, with a little bit of honk if you lug it down around 1100-1300 rpm.

Spool-up is much quicker, really brings out the bang in the Bully Dog box down lower in the RPM's. I actually have to watch how much I romp on it in the middle position now; high may only be for the track!

All in all, the Aero is a pretty sweet upgrade!

Oo.

I have been leaning towards this upgrade also. I just don't want it too loud, just a little more snort and to get rid of the hissing exhaust sound. I'm also curious if you left the stock muffler on.

I am waiting for them to send my kit,had the old style kit and sent it back. I want the sound to be a little louder. but not so bad that the old people next door want to throw me out of the hood

I just did the Banks full 4 inch kit. Really like it. Fuel mileage jumped 1 mpg easily. Sounds great to me. Wife really likes it also.

Removed the muffler. New 4" headpipe and intermediate pipes from the e-Brake to the AeroTurbine, which is mounted just about where the old muffler was. Didn't use the kit mounts (no offense, DPP!) - had the materials to do new ones and welded them on at the headpipe and the muffler; did not need two of the stock muffler mounts. Cut the tailpipe off at the point where it goes to 4" behind the muffler and slid the Aeroturbine on. Welded all the seams. MPG is up 2 to 18. 5 last tank, and it's not broken in yet... . so far no one has thrown me out of the hood and my friend with an early Banks on his '01 pulled up beside me this weekend and said "Wow! What'd you do? I can hear your exhaust over my rattle!"

It's a real deep but not raspy growl. I like it... what can I say:D

I have the same kit as ntenna and really like it also. The best part about it for me is the reduction in EGTs. With the stock exhaust I was having to let off the go pedal going up hills because my EGTs just kept rising. Now with the Aeroturbine, I have yet to see anything over 1150*, no matter how much go pedal I give it. :D

erslll,

How high would your egt go before the aeroturbine??? I never saw that much towing 11-12,000# with the stock exhaust.

I fear that the Aeroturbine is going to be really loud when towing. I'll be leaving next Tuesday for a week, I'll let you all know how loud it was when I return.

Fireman, all I can tell you is we recently pulled about 12K lbs over the 7% grade on I-64 in W. VA, and went over the top at 65+, but with EGT's (measured pre-turbo, DiProcol manual guage) right at 1200-1250 using stock exhaust. Had to feather it to drop temps back near the top. Plenty of power left, just too hot on the exhaust, which is why I went the Aeroturbine route. Guess we'll see about noise next time I tow:confused:

I does definitely make a difference on the EGT's when getting on it though, down a couple of hundred. Maybe I'm not hearing the noise cause I'm leaving it behind!!:D

Fireman,

I saw 1250* and let off there before the Aeroturbine. I have had people question those kind of numbers on a stock truck. I don't know, maybe my gauge is not completely accurate. I do know that since I installed the Aeroturbine, I have definitely seen consistantly lower EGTs.

I really don't think that you will notice that much more noise while towing. Let us know what you think.

1250  I beleive ya, but I haven't seen it on mine.

Next week when I tow I'll know more, this thing really roars under a heavy load.

Twin Aeroturbines

We installed twin Aeroturbines one behind the other on my wife's Excursion diesel and it really works well to mellow the exhaust sound and reduce EGTs even more.

Dleno, Noise was the biggest concern. Most folks I talked with said there is a pronouned BRAPPP when shifting gears. I want a nice mellow tone with good egts. I have run BDs for a long time and probably will go with another one of those... ... ... .

good comments, Barry. Tell us how that works out. your stated goals appear to be quite similar to mine and I'm quite interested in the various solutions out there.

What's curious to me is why you would replace the 4" muffler-back pipe. are there improvements to be had above the stock material? seems like a muff-forward replacement is all you need.

The stock tail pipe is blowing soot all over my right rear quarter panel. I like a little smoke but not on my new white truck. .
