On the front of the control toward the firewall there is a Tee fitting that comes off it, It has a small platic line and a barbed fitting connecting to a hose that goes down under the turb. . This fitting on my truck has been broken off for quite some time. I discovered it today as I was attempting to install a TST uprate kit.

Does anyone know what it does and what won't happen with it being disconnected?

Mine has a tee in it. http://www.tstproducts.com/power_install.html
If you look at figure 4, where is says "1/8 pipe port waste gate control fitting" is where it tees off through the #3 and #4 valve covers to (presumably) the wastegate.

Thank you guys..... Andy I will be repairing it tomorrow..... illflem and Eric you guys are right it does go to the wastegate so now tell me what does the wastegate do?

As for lack of power I sure do when I'm pulling my trailer Thats where I came up with my name #ad
without the trailer no problem with it 60 mph tops and at times i downshift to first gear to climb some hils #ad

So now i'm thinking did I really need that TST kit? Tell me I didn't waste my $$$$$ #ad

Thanks guys.

The wastegate gives your engine additional low speed boost without over boosting at higher speeds. The broken line you have feeds the boost pressure to the wastegate actuator, when the pressure rises the waste gate opens and bypasses exhaust around the turbo blades to reduce the rotation speed. Some folks block this line to disable the wastegate to get more boost, yours might be doing this right now since it has a leak. The danger with this is over boosting.

I would also think this would not allow the AFC to get the proper signal causing it not to move forward as it should and cause a loose of fueling when boost came on just as a valet switch does.

drawson is right. Losing the line to the turbo wastegate is not that important. Losing the air supply to the AFC housing means losing major power. I'm sure you'll want to change your name after you hook it up properly. #ad

Good luck and be sure to come back and tell us how much more power you have after the line install. #ad

So how does it work or what are you supposed to do when you don't use a wastegate?

I am happy to say that fixing the leak at the AFC did as you all told me it incresed my power... . :0 #ad
Then I installed the TST 230/605 uprate kit and WOW!!!! I have to say!!!! I love it!!!! I do however get that puff of black smoke upon heavy acceleration and have the star wheel I believe, all the way forward. How far can it be pushed?

I may have to move the whole housing again #ad

Another question I have installed the boost and EGT gauge and notice that the needle on the EGT gauge sometimes moves fron 600 to 200 or from 100 to 400 and back very rapidly, sometimes it will stay at 600 at 70 mph for a little bit then without my doing anything it starts going up and down again ANY IDEAS????

first off, you need to change your forum name. Second, I have mine set just so it only smokes when i mash the pedal, thats my preference. Play with the star wheel before you take her apart again.

Hi all... . Well I found out that I cannot change my name... They will not let me. . but I have to say I have all the power I want right now. But I also have the dreaded BLACK SMOKE of course that is upon aceleration admittedly it is with a slightly heavy foot but still... ... #ad
I have tried adjusting the star wheel but iut has not hellped a lot. Anyone have this problem after installing the 230/605 TST power kit?

I also am having the floating needle on the EGT gauge and have checked all my connections but it still jumps from 600 down to 200 amnd back and all over, TST said they will ship me a new gauge though. #ad

So I guess I stay Nopowerforme but can now say Ive been bommed and I LIKE IT #ad

So you guys are saying I should just leave well enough alone don't try to do any more about the smoke and just enjoy my new found power..... Is that right?

Learn to drive without stomping and save fuel at the same time. #ad

I have to admit I do love the power. #ad

Thanks everybody this site is great I hope to meet some of you all out there one day.

nopowerforme,

Make sure you are turning the star wheel away from the engine. You should see the wheel move towards the the rear of the housing, or towards the firewall, putting more pressure on the diaphram. You don't want the star wheel moving towards the front of the engine. This takes preload off the AFC spring and will give low boost smoke.

Did you use the guide plate and install TST's plate in the same position as the OE one?

Call TST and get their AFC Spring Kit. Install the medium spring. This should clean up your low boost smoke problem. There is only so much adjustment in the OE spring.

I don't know why you are having smoke problems with stock injectors and a 230/605 plate. Usally big injectors and agressive plates need more fine tuning to contol smoke.

Thanks guys..... Patriot, why should I lose the cat? What will it do for me? I have plenty of power now and hopefully when I start towing my trailer I will be satisfied

Hemi, I did use the plate slid it aft up againt the orig plate and then slid the bnew one forward before tightening it.
I should mention I only get the smoke on medium to hard pressure on the pedal each time I shift after that no smoke at all. Although I do notice white smoke every time I first start it in the morning is this normal?

Thanks for your suggestions

I put the TST #11 plate and AFC spring kit in. Set the star wheel per instructions when the housing was off the pump. I get a little more smoke than I'd like, especially at higher elevations. I've tried several times to remove the plug over the star wheel, but its stuck tight. I've tried it with a both hot and cold engine. I've tried soaking with liquid wrench and other times WD-40. It won't come loose and I'm starting to round out the hex in the plug. I'm open to suggestions.

Thanks in advance. Gene
