I slide my fuel plate last Saturday. I did not realize the AFC housing had slotted holes until I went to put it on. I had posted and was replied to slide the AFC housing toward the front of the engine too. I am trying to understand given the orientation of the "finger" that operates against the fuel plate why would you want to slide the AFC cover forward given sliding the plate toward the front of the engine gives it more fuel?

Sliding the housing is bottom end fuel before boost comes on, star wheel is the same except it's a fine tune adjustment.

Once boost comes on it pushes the arm out of the way and lets the Governor arm ride on the plate to dictate the fueling curve.

Jim told the low boost half of the story.

Moving the AFC housing forward also means the finger (many call it a foot) moves further forward under boost situations. That assures the governor lever will go to the plate profile and not get stopped by the AFC.

If you want to control smoke, try sliding the housing about ¾ forward and run the star wheel out a dozen clicks or so.
