Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) AFC Spring kit... which spring?

Which spring should I go with on my 215 pump? I have my AFC apart now and I can't decide which spring to try. I live at 9000' and spend most of my time between 4000' and 9000'.

I think they recomend the heavier spring for the 215...



I just had my housing and wheel full forward... it could get smokey w/ a 0 plate and 370's... especially w/ a lag pig stock HX40/16... our cabin is at 9000ft.



but for a good balance between smoke control and performance, I'd probably try the heavier spring. too light might be more smoke than you like

Thanks Forrest. I installed the medium spring. Results...



I have noticeably better power off the line before boost, as advertised, but I'm not getting any smoke at all which I thought I would. I backed the star wheel off 15 clicks from the fully retracted position to adjust for 5000 feet (3 clicks per 1000 feet as the instructions recommend). EGTs are kind of interesting. EGTs are little higher at lower speeds pre-boost, but at higher speeds they are lower. Again, not what I expected. I moved my stock plate forward about 1/8" and I moved the AFC housing all the way forward, which is another reason I expected higher EGTs and more smoke.



Any idea why I'm not getting smoke and why my EGTs aren't higher like I expected?

lack of smoke is coming from lack of fuel!



slide that plate full forward and adjust the AFC accordingly from there.

Well, I think I know what's wrong. When I assembled my AFC housing with the TST spring, the diaphragm never did seat on the housing. There is a gap between the diaphragm and where it's supposed to seat. I'm pretty sure now that I think about it, that gap shouldn't be there and it's what is causing me to lose boost and not get fuel.



Has anyone else had a problem like this with the AFC spring kit? I tried like heck to get the diaphragm to seat correctly but I couldn't get rid of the gap.



Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

I've neverhad a problem... go ahead and yank the housing so that you can assemble it on the bench and then install it on the pump...



I ran mine with only three bolts sealing the diaphragm (other one grew legs) and it worked just fine
