I'm searching for a replacement for the old Fleetguard that's in the stock airbox. I know, K&N and Amsoil, and I may windup with the Amsoil. However thought I'd check out the alternatives, anyone have anything to say about the AFE's that Carl has on his group purchase site?

Thanks, Ronnie

I have seen there filters in a Camaro and was impressed with there construction(heavier screens inside and out).
I would like to try one to replace my K&N RE-0880 filter in my Psycotty system and seal the back side and see if it would not suck in like the K&N did. I have e-mailed them three times and gotten no response.

I have one coming that is supposed to be an RE0880 replacment. Has some added benefits too. I don't want to sound like an infomercial, so I'll let you know in a week or so how it compares to the K&N. I have heard they are superior quality, but time will tell...

I have been running one for over 10k mi. I would pull 30% on the filter minder with new stock filter, with the ARE It does not move. Serviced the truck today and washed and oiled it. Boy was it dirty, could not hear the turbo any more.
They are more ridgid than a K&N, heavy rubber that seals real tight ( spelled no grease ), heavy screen and perferated sheet.

Also modified the air horn to day. I cut the horn back to where it sticks into the fender but left one leg at each detent for a standoff to keep it from moving around. The air horn is only a 1/2 inch or so from dead ending on the fender, by cutting it back there will be no restriction when air is trying to squeez between the fender and make a hard 90* turn into the horn.

I am not currently running the Psycotty unit, but Andy is. I should have it this week. I need to look at my books again to see what I can do on price. I know that it has a different internal shape to improve air flow, and the pleats are more rounded to also improve airflow. The plastic part of the filter is also made with a different material that is supposed to last longer. Their oil is also stickier to trap more dirt. I really want to see it first, before I say much more. I also have raycor filters now too. These are a 3 stage foam - oil filter. They are throw away and cost about twice the price of a paper filter, but last 50-75k miles (or so I was told)

I bought the Amsoil foam.
While at the dyno days, I did my stock air filter from the factory and did 205. 7 HP
Changed the filter, took the batt cables off overnight, did the dyno the next day and did 211. 2 HP
Not bad if I do say so myself

Well,
After a few screw ups, I finally got the AFE filters in stock. Here are my impressions.

The stock replacement filter is awesome! It is much better built, and has a much larger surface area than the K&N. Definatley worth the extra dollars.

The 0880 Replacement is also very nice. Fit is good, construction is great. I have not had a chance to compare it one on one with the K&N, but will do this as soon as my partner gets back in town.

The only thing is that some of the filters came pre-oiled, and some did not. Make sure to order the mainteance kit when you get one. K&N's oil will work, but AFE's is supposed to be "stickier". The 880 could use some wire mesh on the inside to prevent collapse, but I don't know if it is really an issue or not.

Overall I would choose the AFE over the K&N anyday.

I hope this helps.
